Re: Wet or Dry or Raw? Free feed or set mealtimes?
Wet food 90% of the time. 2x a week they get a raw meal consisting of raw meat + liver or heart. Set times for feeding: 3-4x a day depending on how hot the weather is (they eat less when it's hot) and how active they are (if they're really running around, I've fed them up to 5x over a 24 hour period).
They only get dry food on free feed when we go out of town and our friend comes to feed our kittens 2x a day with wet food. |

Re: Wet or Dry or Raw? Free feed or set mealtimes?
Feed mainly raw but some wet too (as a certain Mr Jango now won't eat his tinned food very well anymore...)
We have "loose" feeding times as I tend to top up his food whenever it's empty (he's a kitten so I'm free feeding) but also feed fresh food at set meal times morning and evening. |

Re: Wet or Dry or Raw? Free feed or set mealtimes?
We feed approximately 70-80% wet (rotating through several high-quality foods) with 20-30% raw (pre-packaged minces at the moment). The only time we put down dry food is if our routine is slightly different and we're going to be home late, or we're otherwise worried about the kittens being hungry. But to be honest, once we've got through this bag of Orijen, I don't think we're going to bother buying any more dry food.
We have set mealtimes, which took a bit of experimentation to figure out, but we're fairly happy with the times we've chosen. We feed the kittens at 7.30am, 5.00pm and 11.00pm, and those times seem to suit them. They sleep from breakfast through to teatime so they are never that interested in eating a meal at lunchtime. This also fits in with our working hours. We occasionally feed four times a day if they are awake during the day and we're home. Sometimes the kittens will get a snack of tinned fish, cooked chicken, or a raw chicken wing. This isn't included as part of their three main meals though and is separate. They only get this if they ask for it. They're not always hungry in between meals but sometimes are... just like us I suppose! As for why we chose to feed this way, well, I read this forum extensively and decided for myself, based on Hobbs' A-Z and the raw feeding thread and various other useful topics. The kittens can manage about 100g of food in one sitting before they're full, and get through 300g-400g per day, per kitten, so it makes sense to feed them in several small meals. We would love to feed exclusively raw food but it's not practical for us at the moment, so we are just doing what we can for now while we figure things out. ![]()

Re: Wet or Dry or Raw? Free feed or set mealtimes?
I have four rescue cats, 3 of them are 2 years 4 months old, their adoptive uncle is maybe 7-8 years old. I've had the 3 since they were foundlings, Mr M a year longer than that.
They get mostly wet, I am in the process of weaning them off dry, reducing it slowly until they're on a 100% wet diet. Ditto! ![]() The wet food I feed is Mac's, Grau, Petnatur, and some Granatapet. The dry food is Orijen chicken. They sometimes get tinned fish as a treat (mackerel or tuna). They usually get normal treats at the weekend (Thrive or other 100% meat treats, also dried chicken hearts for the taurine). I'm also going to start adding a drop or two of salmon oil to some of their meals. A great deal of credit has to go to Hobbs2004, and others on this forum, as without her extensive work on the A-Zs and help with my questions, they would still be on Royal Canin sterilised 37 dry with just a spoon of Whiskas wet on top.
