Confused

Hi to everyone.

I'm not new to having cats but I'm somewhat confused about conflicting views on diet.

My adult cat, Tyger gets both wet and dry food.

When we were buying stuff for the new kitten, Dynamo, the lady at the shop (a qualified vets nurse) advised us that I should keep him on a purely dry diet.

Having read Hobbs posts on food I am now quite confused as to what is best.

Feedback?

Re: Confused

Vets and vets nurses tend to have their nutrition training sponsored by places like Hills etc. Some vets are more enlightened like Joe Engles who makes the Jack and Jills stuff. Hobbs knows what she is talking about - dry is not the best for cats, it doesn't clean teeth as it shatters when bitten, it dehydrates cats and is especially full of carbs etc that cats can#t digest. Why pay for them just to poop it out again? Any complete wet is better than dry. Ignore the vet nurse.

Re: Confused

Thank you.

Tyger is a fussy bugger and won't eat anything but Felix (which is crap)

Dynamo will get some good quality wet food.

I hope that I haven't done wrong, he really enjoyed some fresh cooked chicken yesterday

Nope nothing wrong with a bit of chicken - give it to him raw next time

Re: Confused

Dynamo has just had some Applelaws. He thoroughly enjoyed it and cleaned himself really well after it.

his new favourite hobby is chasing the letters and the cursor on the monitor.

I want to ask whether there is one food better than the others (I read up on Applaws dry which apparently has no cereals in it) or is it just what the kit will eat?

Re: Confused

A-Z of wet food for cats

A-Z of dry food for cats

Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike)

All you will need to know is in the above links.

Applaws is one of the better dry foods (along with orijen and acana) but generally, ANY complete wet food is better than dry, in all ways, nutritionally etc. So you're bog standard wet whiskas is better than feeding top quality dry.

Re: Confused

I should have said Applaws wet

He really enjoyed it. I am probably going to buy some more for him in the very near future.

Hold that thought.

Applaws wet is complementary So it is a treat, and cannot be fed as his main food, as it does not contain all the vitamins/minerals etc a cat needs

Re: Confused

This is really difficult. Just getting to know what is right.

I've been on Zooplus crossreferencing things with Hobbs guide. I'm still not really sure what is best to feed.

I'm tempted to order a couple of different packs and see what he enjoys
