My cat izzy died 3 weeks after giving birth

My cat izzy had a litter of 4 kittens and was doing great then on the 3 week after she gave birth she got really sick and couldn't moveoff the bed she just hissed she was sick and diaroea she could only lift her head but only as if she was scared so I took her to emergency vet as it was a Sunday and he tested her for everything he could think of the end he said he couldn't do anything to help her and couldn't leave her in pain so put her to sleep leaving 4 kittens behind......... Now I've been feeding the kittens and they're a joy but tonight the only girl took I'll with similar diagnosis as her mum but I just kept her wrapped up and cuddled and stroked her now she seems to be getting better does any1 have any idea what this could be? confused:confused:

Re: My cat izzy died 3 weeks after giving birth

Did the emergency vet clinic do any x-rays? Did they do a complete blood test to test for diseases? My first thoughts were internal damage may have occurred when the mama gave birth and she didn't heal, but if one of the kittens is sick I would talk to a veterinarian and ask about testing the kitten for diseases or infections, if it is old enough Best of luck to you and the baby furballs.

The vet done test but found nothing for izzy but I just wrapped the baby up last night and stroked a her and she is fine this morning seriously I'm so confused the kittens will be 5 weeks on Saturday I'm going to take them for a check up today hopefully get some answere's i'm now thinking maybe if I'd just left izzy would she have pulled through was the decision to put her to sleep taken too lightly.

Well I guess if you were guided by the vet then IAH you could only go by what the vet suggestion so I would guess the answer would be NO! BUT that said and NOT trying to stick the boot in here but maybe the decision to let her have kittens WAS. I am really sorry for you cat , your kittens and you - in that order! I really really hope that these littens pull through. I do congratulate you onseeking the approriate advice on both the cat and thekittens, just a shame is ever happened!
Again I say I am so sorry to read and I DO wish you all the best with the remaining kittens.

Re: My cat izzy died 3 weeks after giving birth

The decision for izzy to have kittens was taken out of my as izzy escaped with the local gigalo and was missing for a few days. And I do have homes for the kittens being 2 with me and 2 with my mum so they are all going to be well looked after. I did ask the vet if he thought that izzy's condition was due to her having the kittens and he said no. All kittens were checked yesterday and bloods taken so if it is a hereditary condition then at least I can make sure thier o. K. I have asked the vet to check for epilepsy as when I thought about it the blank look and twitching it reminded me of my son who had epilepsy till he was 6 yrs old. Thanx for your advise and you've helped me loads it's good to be able to get on here and chat about these things especially with people who understand as my hubby and sister don't understand that people get attached and love thier animals as I do so theanz again xx oh and little izzy is absolutely fine now playing eating jumping around like nothing ever happened
