Persian Eyes

We have recently acquired new persians both of whom have runny eyes.

What is the best thing to bathe them with i.e. other than just water.

I used Barrier Animal Health Care Eye and Nose on my donkey's runny eyes but not sure if it can be used on cats.

Any persian owners out there let me know what you use - the white one has red patches - his eyes aren't that bad but they do look unsightly

Re: Persian Eyes

Hi

I have a Persian and i've only ever used a cotton ball soaked in warm water.

I'd possibly nip into your vet to get their eyes checked before you start using anything.

Re: Persian Eyes

I also just use warm water. They will get red and sore if they have not been bathed for a while.

Luckily my cats actually wash each others faces after every meal so I dont have to bathe their eyes very often, unless theyve fell out and refused to do each others

Re: Persian Eyes

Eye Envy lotion is good for persian eyes (I've got 6 pairs of eyes to do every morning lol!) - this is where I get mine from Toe Tufts: Products for Cats . Also good is a damp face flannel with a small amount of no tears cat shampoo (I used Ring 5 Bright White RING 5 BRIGHT WHITE SHAMPOO --- Purrsonal Touch )

How does 'eye envy' actually work - does it clean the eye and remove any stains from the fur under the eye or does it just cover up the stain? What do you use to apply it to the eye area? What size bottle do you get and do you use it every single day? Do you use the 'eye envy' powder?

I find Pets at Home eye wipes bbrilliant, believe it or not, and I show so need to keep on top of staining. They're great at lifting out all the muck left behind as long as you keep on top of it and do them every day.

So far I've just been using cooled boiled water, cotton wool pads and cotton buds. I am finding that the nasty stuff coming out of their eyes is actually staining the fur. The nasty stuff is sometimes hard in the corner of their eyes (a bit like what we would call 'sleep' in our eyes) and you have to wet it, leave it for a while, and then go back to wipe it off once it has softened. Do you ever get this?

I've been wiping from the inner corner of the eye outward (starting nearest their nose).

Yes, it does clean and remove stains from the fur, although its not an immediate effect if the staining is very bad. I use cotton pads (separate pad for each eye) and soak the pad with the EE. If the staining was bad I would use it every day for maybe a week, after then prob just a couple of times a week, or even once a week to keep on top of it.

I don't tend to use the powder as I have colourpoints and its really best on white cats.

I've only bought the 8 oz bottle, as although I've got 6 persians, the lotion has a short shelf life (even when kept in the fridge).
