Re: best cat food for smelly mess

Is gocat all dry? An all dry diet is pretty bad for a cat to be honest, and gocat is very low quality

I find that if I feed fish, my boys poo stinks to high heaven *gag* They do tend to get runny poo when fed fish so I don't feed it at all now (though will be trying some raw fish mince stuff when it is released)

Also with dry, horrendous poo smell.

With my current mix of raw and high meat food, I find the poo doesnt smell at all. Really for the small AND the overall health of your cat, you should be looking to switch to a predominantly wet diet, with a very high meat content (70% plus, though I aim for 90% plus)

Oof no not at all unfortunately! Anyway, moving on

This is just what I feed personally, and obviously you would need to make the switch over gradually. I feed animonda carny, which is a brand from zooplus.com. They also do the following brands which are very high meat content and well priced! Grau, Bozita pate, Smilla.

i also feed Natural Instinct raw mince for cats available from their website. This is a complete food, (as just feeding raw meat doesnt cover all of a cats needs) but I feed commercial wet food as well just in case any of the foods I feed are a bit on the low side of any one particular thing.

Re the dry issue, have a look at this, which will hopefully persuade you to stop feeding dry and moving to a wet diet:

Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike)

That thread also gives you a link to a list of foods that are available in the UK and outlines what it contains, how much to feed etc.

Then there is also this post, which might give you even more info on how to make an informed decision: Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike)

Actually, also read that bit about the importance of not just feeding one brand of food!

Hope that helps

The teeth thing is a much perpetuated myth, (do biscuits clean our teeth? I wish!)

And they really dont smell as much on wet food, though the food can be a bit smellier :P

Re: best cat food for smelly mess

I'm weaning my cat off GoCat too Codyann it isn't happening overnight, I'm putting out wet food 3-4 times a day and a little dry, also I think the GoCat must be like McDonalds addictive or something, so sprinkling a little bit on top of the wet food helps that go down I've found also he's taken to both the other dry foods I tried straight away, whereas he turned his nose up at some of the wet lol. Currently using Orijen 6 Fish (it stinks though, although his poos aren't so bad tbh. Think they do chicken too) which seems pretty good - check out the A-Z for dry food too. I'm mixing a little bit of the GoCat in, with that also, so its a gradual transition. Seems to be a bit of a voyage of discovery though, this food switching malarkey! I'm probably feeding him too much, scared if him losing weight and being unhappy in his new home
