Hello everyone,
After careful consideration (1year +) my partner and I decided we wanted to add a cat to our family. We researched alot and finally found a kitten that just stole our hearts away. We did everything by the book - went to see the kitten, parents, additional cats & siblings, noted the surroundings and seller, etc. We kept in contact with seller as well as receiving regular picture updates. We enquired weekly about the cats health as well.
All in all we felt pretty confident about the cat we had purchased.
We had reserved an all white blue eyed female cat.
About 2 weeks before we were due to pick her up we received an emailing stating she was no longer sure of the sex of the kitten and the kitten had developed weepy eye. Which to my knowledge is common enough. She would get the vet to check.
I then received an email confirming the cat was a female and she would double check before handing her over. Cat was receiving anti biotics.
When we were due to pick her up this was postponed a week due to uncleared conjunctivitis. She was giving more antibiotics, we were told.
And yesterday we pick her up. Well the first thing I noticed was that the cat had in fact green eyes, not blue, little difference i thought - she was gorgeous!
When we got home, after she had settle, I noticed her eye was very wet. Closer inspection revealed she still has conjunctivitis and this morning the eye is very sore looking and crusted over.
Further more when the cat was playing for a bit I noticed some very funny bit on it and again investigated - it is VERY obvious this kitten is MALE! And to my horror I also discovered the cat is covered in fleas.. I then did as good a check I can do as a complete novice and the cat also has what looks like earmites!!
Im completely horrified by all of this... I could live with the she turned he and the eyes being green, thats not rly the problem. But the rest is horrible in my opinion..
Now I dont know what to do! Part of me want to return the cat and demand my money back - but what am I sending this poor creature back to !? Part of me is considering demanding atleast compensation for the vet bills we have now incured from things that should have been picked up by the vet (earmites, fleas..) and the fact she allowed a sick cat to travel so far! The cat is very obviously bothered by the eye infection and is constantly scratching it..
We are taking the cat to the vet as soon as they open to get him thoroughyl assesed.. but what do we do!? What can we do!? Please help.. i feel like such a fool right now..
