Hairballs and diarrhea

My girl has had diarrhea for the last 8 days, hopefully I've just found the cause in her litter tray; a rather large hairball covered in thin yellow tinged liquid. I'm not sure if she's coughed it up or if it's very thin poop, I think the former by the look and smell although I've never known her go into her litter tray to be sick.

I've never had hairballs cause diarrhea before but I know that theoretically they can so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is the cause, has anybody else known similar?

Re: Hairballs and diarrhea

is it sloppy poo or diarrhea. If diarrhea I'd take her to the vets if she's had it solid for 8 days. Have you tried feeding her a bland diet like cooked chicken or chicken and rice to see if that helps?

Re: Hairballs and diarrhea

No it has been proper diarrhea which both boiled chicken and pro kolin have failed to make any impact on. She was in the vets Thursday, but like I say hopefully the cause has just revealed itself.

I'd take her back to the vet perhaps she needs an antibiotic or something to get her back on the right track or maybe she needs more tests done.

What did the vet say when you took her on thursday?

If the hairball was responsible then it should clear up now it's been excreted. Otherwise I've have it investigated.
