Re: CRF feeding - can you feed too much?
My cat Misi is in stage 3 crf and still has a really good appetite, if somewhat tempered by her stomatitis. Make sure you're feeding him a grain-free good quality food that's low in phosphorus but not too low in good quality meat protein and you'll be laughing. If he's put on weight, that's fantastic. It may be that when he has his bloods done again in August, they'll have improved somewhat. Lots of things can cause a sort of "spike" in blood results, and it also may be that when he had his blood test that showed he was in crf, there was something else going on with him to skew the results a bit. I say this because my cat's bloodwork was awful at the beginning of April, just after she'd had a stomatitis flare-up, followed by cortisone, followed by a cold. Her blood test the other day showed a marked improvement.

He flately refused any renal wet food but does sometime deign to eat renal biscuits He's on a wet diet, so I am feeding him on a variety of foods to keep his interest up....some good....some of the "junk" ones (all mixed with binders of course). He's 18 and has had a practically vet free life up until now. I figure that at his age he's entitled to have a bit of whatever he likes ![]() He's certainly getting back to the old Oscar ![]() |

Re: CRF feeding - can you feed too much?
My girl's also 18 and I pretty much feel the same way. The best thing you can do for a renal cat is to keep them eating. That will keep them the most healthy for longer. Reckon you've got it licked, gal

Hadn't realised Misi was 18! A real trooper for her age. I'd never have guessed from the photographs. How is her eating now? Still grinding? |

Re: CRF feeding - can you feed too much?
He is doing well thanks. Not sure if you have seen my recent update but he had a biopsy which showed he has IBD! Thankfully he doesn't have anything nasty such as FIP which is what I was worried about. He's not shown any of the more usual symptoms of IBD and is quite young to get it [my elderly persians both have IBD]. He's got a delivery of horsemeat coming from zooplus as we are going to try him on an exclusion diet.
