My 2 year old cat losing chunks of hair.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could offer me some advice.

My cat has been losing small chunks of hair over the last 2 weeks and I'm not sure what the problem is.

I went to the vet and she suggested changing the food to gluten free, as it might be an allergy. Well, I did that but there are still a few bits of hair coming out.

All in all, over the last 2 weeks she has lost maybe 6 small chunks of hair, I have attached a picture of one of them.

I should mention that she had fleas about 2 months ago, which was swiftly treated with frontline and they are all gone now. Could it be a reaction to frontline?

Thanks for any help

Re: My 2 year old cat losing chunks of hair.

Hey there, I think it is a bit too late to be a reaction to the flea treatment. Would you say that she has been losing/tearing out fewer bits of hair since you changed her diet? What were you feeding before and what are you feeding now? Are there particular areas where she is losing these tufts of hair?

Interesting that your vet would narrow it down to a gluten-diet; cats can be allergic to sooo many things but I guess one has to start somewhere.

If it were my cat I think I would be inclined to take her back to the vet, perhaps for some skin tests or just another look.

Hope that helps
