Spoke to the vet about my cats poor eating. Advice please

Angelica is 7 months old this weekend, she is a British Blue, very chunky little madam weighing 3.5kg. In the last couple of weeks she has stopped eating all wet food. Which is really not like her because when I used to dish out she would run from wherever she was to be there waiting for her meal.

I was feeding Felix Sensations which is crap I know but she wouldn't eat Nature Menu when she was a baby really so I just kept her on the Felix. Then I bought some Animonda Carny last week as I wanted her to be on a good wet food. She and my 21 month old Norwegian Forest cat wouldn't touch it, I bought 12 of them aswell, lol! So I thought well I will have to just keep her on Felix but she isn't eating that.

I had her examined by the vet, he wasn't worried at all, he said she was totally healthy and her urine sample was fine too. He said he thought possibly she was coming into heat (my other cat keeps smelling Angelicas bottom??? lol). He said that can cause them to go off their food.

I feed my cats Orijen dry food too, she is still eating her dry food but refusing the wet. My vet said this is fine as long as it is a complete food. Will this be ok for her? Why would she suddenly though go off her wet food after always loving it?

I have even offered some fresh fish and chicken, and she just has a little nibble then walks away, just not like her at all, she would have polished hers off then my other cats given the chance

Awwww, is she being spayed soon? I know that some BSH breeders claim that you should get them spayed later as to 'bring out their features'.

I had my Lola spayed at 6 months and she is still getting chunkier by the second so if you're worried about their growth/features, I wouldn't worry too much

I can't really help with the food thing (as you'll tell from my numerous threads in this section!) but hope she gets better soon

No plans just yet, I discussed this with my vet and he said that was fine.

I guess I am just concerned as to why she isn't eating as well as she used to, she eats very little now.

The vet said she was perfectly healthy.

That's fair If she's coming into heat though, and you're not going to breed from her, I'd get her spayed as soon as you can - Lola came into a heat a couple of times before being spayed and I felt so sorry for her poor thing!

Cats are notoriously fussy and might just change their preferences overnight (and they expect you to know that and do something about it!) - or Felix may have changed their recipe perhaps. Although if it's all wet food, that's quite weird.

I'm sure Hobbs will be along at some point with her wisdom

I probably shall do in the next few months. It is horrible once they are on heat, my other cat I saw her once and I used to feel so sorry for her.

Thanks.

I would get it done asap, rather than a few months A few months could mean a few calls, and obviously that is no fun for either of you.

Could it be just as the Vet has said and that she is coming into call so her appetite has dropped, could also be the weather my girl eat considerably less in the summer, I would get her spayed asap and see how she goes.

Could be her teeth, are all her adult teeth in yet? Guess the vet would have checked, nothing impacted? If she's crunching the dry food probably not teeth, if she's hoovering it I'd think teeth, very odd for a young cat to turn their nose up at fresh meat!

Thank you all. Her teeth seem fine, the vet checked her thoroughly and said she was really healthy.

She eats but small amounts then runs off to play. She is really well and happy, just off her wet food at the moment, so not like her.

I have had 3 British girls and when they have reached 10 months i get then speyed.
If you think she is coming into season then maybe get her done asap.
As for sniffing bums I have noticed that my male and females do it to each other so I don't think it's a coming into a season thing.

Onto the subject of food.
I have never had any problems with our cats with food until this year.
Thay have a good varied diet.
Fresh chicken, Mince, Royal canin Britsh short haired biscuits and felix, whiskers.
They all went off felix and whiskers. I tryed them on every wet food i could lay my hands on. They didn't seem to like any.
The only one they eat up is gourmet.
So they have that and sometimes I put down a felix sensations along with some biscuits.

It could be the warm weather or she has slowed down in her growth.
They seem to eat more when they have a growth spurt if you know what i mean.

Also when we got our last kitten she would not touch kitten food. So if your Angelica is on kitten food try her on some adult stuff.
