wormimg & shots >

Hi there! I need help please:

Bud-Bud is an indoor 1 year old Maine Coon on 21st July, with access to
the back garden via his harness and lead. Very occasionally young deer gain access to nibble on new raspberry shoots also do young foxes, and three cats I've counted. One is semi feral. I don't mean the others nibble on our raspberry shoots thank goodness!

Well, if he were yours, prrrrsumably you'd be buying Advantage, worm pills
and getting him his annual booster? Right? With bigger cats I've read Advantage is better, according to a US maine Coon breeder.

I'd appreciate your advice and the time spent giving it.
Thanks

=^..^= Bud=Bud & me

I'm on the fence about boosters but my cats are indoor only.

I would also only get wormers from the vet, I'm funny like that but it seems to be cheaper anyway so I can't see a disadvantage.

As this will be Bud-Bud's first booster vaccination then yes I would most definitely have this done, not sure whether I personally would go for yearly boosters afterwards though. As for worming and flea treatment I would treat for both if you think he is at risk.Fleas, yes, there is a strong chance of him picking them up if you have visiting animals in your garden, what to use I think be guided by your vet..Not sure about worming ,my indoor boy was neither wormed nor treated for fleas at his booster visit as ,he doesnt go outside and doesnt mix with any other animals.

Advantage/Advocate will do your fleas and the more common worms, I swear by the stuff to be honest, every other month does us fine.

Because you sound like you are in a far more 'outdoorsy' location, I'd definitely be using Advocate.

As for the booster, there are mixed opinions about this. Mine are indoor/yard cats, and the eldest will be going for her first booster in August. Many people with indoor cats regard the boosters as unnecessary, but years ago I had a cat that died of feline leukemia and it was horrible. I spent six weeks watching him die because I hadn't got him vaccinated. It's the worst thing that can happen, yet it is so easy to avoid. Get the Booster.

In my experience, some vets will give you at least one syrette of Advocate when they vaccinate/booster. Sometimes after reading these boards I feel like I go to the best vet in the world! This morning after our new kittens first vaccination jab we left with;
  • 4 syrettes of Advocate
  • A new Kitten Collar
  • A bag of hills dry (we don't use it though)
  • A box of Hills Wet (again we don't use it, give it to a shelter)
  • 4 weeks insurance (till his next jab)
  • Voucher for a £5 microchip and £20 neuter
  • one half vaccinated kitty!

All for the £32 vaccination fee which covers the second jab as well! So make sure to ask "Where's my free stuff?!"
