Re: Bad Vet?

We got Abby from a rescue centre & she'd had her first set of injections so we only had to get the second lot done.

We took her to our vet and, as it was REALLY busy, the receptionist booked us in with the nurse for speed.

However, when the nurse called us in & realised that Abby was new to us and had not been to this practise before, she got the vet to come in ahd check her over before giving the jabs. She was weighed, checked for fleas, ear-mites & worms. They inspected her 3 week old spay wound and were happy with how it was healing. They checked her eyes, coat, claws & paws. Once the vet was totally satisfied that our baby was in perfect health, she then did the jabs.

THIS is exactly how every vet visit should be when going for vacs.

I think your experience is quite appalling and I would be checking out if the bloke that saw you was a permanent staff member. If he was, I would be considering finding another vet.

Also, don't be afraid to change your vet. I am now on vet #3 in 5 years. The only reason I wasn't with them from the start is because they are new in our town otherwise I would have been.

I'm not sure about the free insurance though. I've never heard of a vet doing that
Oh yes they do, it's exactly the same as the breeder insurance. One vet local to me does so much of it that he builds up thousands of reward points, transfers them into shopping vouchers and gives them to his staff as their Christmas presents.

Re: Bad Vet?

Thanks for the response everybody - i'm really glad it wasn't just me who thought this level of service was poor.

For those who have asked - I live in a small town, and I only have access to the vet that i've gone to, without having to catch a train. However, based on this vet's attitude, I'm seriously considering popping my kitties on the train with me in order to get them better quality of care.

This is exactly why I am concerned - I want to know that my laddies have got access to the best treatment if (heaven forbid) anything were to happen!

And i've noticed alot of you have mentioned about how busy the place is, and the possibility that we saw a nurse but I must tell you - We were the only people/animals in the surgery & they only have the one vet, all of the nurses are women!

I really wish I'd mentioned how dissapointed I was with what we were given (or not given as the case is!) but I was confused about what had happened, and that's why I posted on here to make sure I wasn't over-reacting first!

I'm going to go back in three weeks and ask the vet to check him over properly this time - and if he has the same attitude, I WILL be going elsewhere!!!
