my blind cat attacked

hi,
my cat is blind due to crf, he has been blind for about 7 months and he copes fantastic and knows exactly where he,s going in the house upstairs and down.

i have very safe well contained garden and he uses his cat flap to go in and out with know problems and he loves it (amazing).

4 days ago i went into the garden to call him in for his dinner but he did not answer, and he was just lying under the bush towards the back of the garden,
i went to get him and he was terrified to the point that he wet his self i picked him up took indoors and now he seems to have lost all sense of direction he his very scared and moves very slowly and wont move from the back hallway i have had to move his bed there and he just sleeps and growls when i go near him.
he has got a bit better today but only a bit.

next door have said thay have seen another cat hanging about which i have never seen any cat around here in years.
i think he most of been attacked by it, he his stiill eating and drinlink albeit not has much.
will he come round in time/get better

thanks

Re: my blind cat attacked

Are there any signs of attack on him at all?

Honestly I would have him straight to the vet with those symptoms. I wouldnt have waited 4 days.

Re: my blind cat attacked

he seems to have a bit of a scab behind his ear but nothing major, i only waited as the 1 thing in life he hates with a passion is the cat carrier and being driven to the vets.

i was to scared to stress him out even more, i did ring the vet though and he said if thats the case try let him calm down for a few days and bring him in then.
i am now back on stroking terms with him now but he is still not roaming round the house.

Re: my blind cat attacked

I think for peace of mind i would take him to the vet to have a check over.
Something could have happened to him medically such has a mini stroke or a heart problem or even just a Dizzy spell.
I don't mean to frighten you but you did say he had wet himself with fright.
Sometimes when Animals or humans have a fit they can wet themselves.

Also if it was a cat fight do you think you would have heard some noise?

I know he doesn't like to go to the vets but if he's calmed down now a bit then i would take him asap.

Hope the little chap will feel much better soon and please let us know how he gets on xx

Re: my blind cat attacked

Two threads???

Vets please - he sounds like he is pain and that's not fair on him - so he doesn't like the carrier - I bet he doesn't like being in pain either!

Re: my blind cat attacked

I think your poor lads just had a bit of a fright and needs to get his confidence back.

It must be quite scary to be in a fight and not be able to see anything. I think if this strange cat was in your garden, then your cat may of got too close for comfort checking him out and the other cat may of took a swipe at him, causing the scab on his ear and that shocked him so he went to hide in the bush where you found him.

My cat pees with fright at being taken to the vets so it's not always something sinister.

Personally I'd leave him to see if he calm down first.

Re: my blind cat attacked

Since you haven't actually witnessed an attack and considering his CRF it could very well be complications associated with it or a worsening of the condition itself. The growling would certainly point to pain so the sooner he sees a vet the better to rule this very real possibility out. His not eating and drinking much is also a concern.

The blindness I would have attributed to high blood pressure ( common in CRF cats ) and I wonder if he's on any medications for this? Do you know who advanced the CRF is?

Sorry to disagree with you,but you do not know he is not in pain.Cats will purr when in pain as well as when contented. After this length of time he needs to be seen by a vet.

Re: my blind cat attacked

vets would be the thing to do. My cat had a stroke/heart attack, she also wasn't fond of the carrier, just put her/his favorite blanket in and talk soothingly the whole time the cat is in there. My old gal purred never ever made a whimper or growl and she was paralised from in front of the hips back. Maybe keep her/him inside from now on or section part of the yard with a cover so no other animals can get in. Just a thought....
