Cat keeps being sick?

Ninja keeps being sick, we have taken him to the vets a good few times and they all said the same thing, he is healthy, no blockages in his guts and doesnt seem to be anything wrong...

but he keeps bringing up his food?

Although it is not after every meal, it is becoming a weekly occurance? He does it almost immediately after eating his food, the last time he was sick right next to his food bowl so he couldnt have long eaten it? there was another little sick on the floor this morning, nothign in it, just saliva?

he often coughs as if he is trying to bring up a hairball, but i have never seen any hairballs in the flat?

I am really worried about him, he means everything to me and feel like i am either being fobbed off by the vets or it isnt something to worry about, but i dont know which?

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

Does he eat really quickly? many cats will regurgitate their food if they do that, giving him a smaller portion might help.
Having said that though my Nellie is a fairly regular vomiter and i can tell on the day when she is going to be sick cause she has a cough earlier in the day like she's gonna bring something up so it could be a hairball, have you tried a paste for that and lots of grooming?
If he's not bringing one up it could be because it's still waiting to come up!

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

What do you feed him as they can throw dried food up easily if eaten too quickly, or it could be that the food just doesn't agree, you can get a tube of malt paste stuff that is meant to be good for getting rid of hairballs or you can get dried food specially for hairballs and treats or cat grass, I know if Maudey doesn't get a small portion of hairball dried food every few days she starts hacking and coughing, so maybe look at what you are feeding him and consider changing it.

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

Is he losing weight? I can't tell from your post if its just saliva most of the time or if he is also bringing his food up too.

At the end of the day, if you aren't satisfied with the information that the vets have given you to justify why he might be being sick so often then you are well within your right to get a second opinion.

As others have said, this could just be normal furballs that he's trying to bring up but it might not. I'm not an expert at all, but in my opinion if you are still worried about it, then pursue it until you are satisfied that its nothing serious. Get a second opinion, especially if the frequency of his being sick is increasing

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

I had a cat that used to throw food straight back up if she wolfed it down too quickly. She was only fed IAMS or similar (because I didn't know better) and if her bowl was ever left to get empty I could pretty much guarantee it would happen. It didn't upset her in the slightest and she lived to a very good age

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

I am still experiencing problems with Ninja being sick, as said previously, it seems to be as soon after he eats it, i tried to only give him a little at a time to stop the problem but it keeps happening. im very worried now as a fair few months have passed and its still happening...

He doesnt appear to be losing weight and it seems to be just in the mornings now.

I feed him the same brand of food that he has enjoyed for ages and i cant think for the life of me what is making him throw up?

help

What do you feed him? They could have changed the recipe.

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

That is one of the foods we had problems with, had a free sample and it was fine at first, however the second lot came back up straight away. The most successful Felix type we have had is the meaty loaf which I mash up and add some water to.

Is it one particular flavour you are having problems with? Beef seems to come up fairly often here, it is quite a rich one and I think has more added colouring than some of the others (not at all good for carpets).

Re: Cat keeps being sick?

My cat throws up her dried food if she eats it quickly and then runs around. Also if she has just eaten and then plays with her treat ball she does the same. As long as your cat isn't losing weight, looking lethargic or any other telltale signs I wouldn't worry too much.
