Allergies!

My poor boy Harvey has sores all over his body and the vet seems to think he is allergic to something, but what we are not sure! He has got to go in on Monday to have blood tests, hair strand tests and skin scrape tests, the cost is crazy but luckily he insured with petplan! Does anyone have any information on skin allergies, or anyone elses cat suffer with anything like this? I'm just really hoping they find out what it is and it is treatable.. Fingers crossed!!

Re: Allergies!

No idea really - but good luck - I would assume it's probably food related - have you tried/ thought of a raw diet.

Re: Allergies!

The unfortunate thing with allergies is that they can develop over time. So, it could be something in the food that he has become allergic to, it could be the new carpet, it could be the washing powder, air freshener, cleaning product. It could be pollen from a tree/bush outside. It could be anything.

Did the vet give him anything for the time being? Do you have a health food shop nearby or a supermarket with a decent pharmacy type thing. Have a look for some pure evening primrose oil. It contains special fatty acids that help calm the skin down at time of allergies. If your cat eats his food still with a few drops of that on than that might be worth a try. But perhaps pass this by the vet first and if they agree perhaps don't start until they have done the bloods etc (they shouldn't interfere but better safe than sorry).

Re: Allergies!

He is on antibiotics, he did have a steroid injection last week when I first took him to the vets but they couldn't give him another one because of interfering with the blood tests
