Puncture wound???

This morning I thought our Lutek has got a tick as I've found little bump. But them I found 3 little bumps. After closer inspection I saw 3 small holes like other cat dig their claws into him. The wound once pressed released very very smelly yellow discharge. Also he's missing hairs on it so it a bare hole. The other 2 have got fur clumped together.

Going to the vets tomorrow as I'm worried it is infected.

Any you had any experiences with puncture wounds or sth similar.

Re: Puncture wound???

Puncture wounds (from cat claws or teeth) are dangerous, as cat skin is elastic and quickly seals over the wound itself. The bacteria left inside can develop into an abscess. If you're noticing smelly discharge, the abscess process has started - there is certainly an infection there.

Can you get your cat to the vets today to start antibiotics? In the meantime, wash the area with water with a little salt in.

Thank you. As I've just noticed it before leaving to work, Lutek is going to the vets at 9am tomorrow morning. I hope he will be OK. I'm very freaky about my cats and dog.

Re: Puncture wound???

Deffo sounds like a bite wound - and as said in previous post can quickly become an abcess - cat saliva is full of bacteria so more than likely infected - deffo a trip to the vet hopefully some antibiotics will clear it up - my cat has had an abcess and it was awful so dont delay the quicker u go to the vet the less likely it will turn into one good luck

Re: Puncture wound???

Glad to hear you are taking him to the vet. Abscesses can get very nasty and make your kitty very sick with fever. The vet will drain the abscess and probably give him some antibiotics to fight the infection. You will probably need to keep cleaning the wound and ensuring the wound is drained at home. Vet will show you how.
The good thing about most abscesses is that once the wound is properly drained by the vet and the antibiotics kick in, the recovery is almost magical. It is wonderful seeing all that horrible evil pus being drained by the vet. My vet says it is one of the more rewarding things to do as a vet.
