Unexplained bleeding

WTF? This afternoon, when I returned from work, I saw, in the middle of the tiled floor, a splatter of blood and bloody footprints leading away from it. All 3 the cats seem to be fine, I prodded all 3 bodies throughly and checked their orifices with a torch. They all seem to be fine, eating, playing, leaping from the table. The splatter looks to me exactly like a nosebleed: a splatter and then a few drops alongside the footprints (the kitty seems to have stepped into the splatter). Bleeding seems to have stopped quickly and is no more than say half a teaspoon in total. Has anyone got a suggestion about what could have caused this? I could go to the vet, but is this which cat do I take? They all seem 100%. Do cats get nosebleeds? If so, how serious is it? This is the first time I have come across something like this.

Re: Unexplained bleeding

Check their claws maybe. When I have had unexplained blood its been claws being torn, with both cats and buns. not exactly a splatter but it can be quite a bit where they tore it..,

Re: Unexplained bleeding

Thanks GM. I rechecked them all: all claws present and accounted for and no sensitivity. Phoned the vet this morning. She suggested it may very well be a nosebleed. Apparently quite common at this time of the year (we have very dry cold winters). The very dry air dries out their mucous membranes and then any sneeze can result in a nosebleed. If it happens again, I can bring him in. She also suggested I buy a humidifier for the house.
I feel a bit foolish now, but I got such a fright, especially since I had had a bad nightmare about my cats the night before..

No, it really looked like a nosebleed..you know, a splatter of fine drops. There was no other material in the splatter. In any case, I am watching all of them like a hawk.
