Exclamation Vomiting cat

Hi,

I have two cats, one a female short hair house cat who is 2 years old (Maisie), the other a short hair male who is for the time being a house cat as he is a new addition (Hugo).

For the past couple of days Hugo has been vomiting on a semi-daily basis. He was being fed around half a can of Whiskers per day (he weighs around 6kg) I then changed his food to Iams and he was fine for a day or so, but has just been sick again this morning.

I'm wondering if it's furballs or if I'm underfeeding him. I've not noticed any considerable weight loss, however, he is forever scavenging; knocking the bin over and begging for food whenever I eat. A lot of the time that he has been sick it has just been bile (although this may be down to the fact that once he started being ill I stopped feeding him for 24 hrs upon the advice of one website).

Other than the vomiting he's fine; he's playful and affectionate. He still maintains an appetite as well.

Anyone got any ideas, or is a trip to the vet the best shout? I'm off on holiday for 3 weeks tomorrow and my parents are looking after them so would really appreciate some advice!

Thanks

Re: Vomiting cat

How quickly did you switch his food? Switching too quickly can cause tummy upsets but it usually manifests at the other end.

How big Were the tins of whiskas he was being fed half of, and how much iams is he getting now?

Re: Vomiting cat

Hey, welcome to the PF. Perhaps the wrong time to change the food when you are going away and someone else is looking after the cats.

Why are you changing from Whiskas to IAMS? And are you switching to IAMS wet food (hugely expensive for what it is) or dry food?

I presume you were feeding him 200g of Whiskas a day, which doesn't sound a lot by any means.

Sorry, one more question. How old is Hugo?
