Unhappy Eating WAAAAY too fast. Advice?

Hi.

My cat slowly over time has begun to get really bad table manners.

When ever i put his dish on the floor *usually feed 55-60g per meal-4times a day* he is straight in it and eating so fast its like he has never seen food before and is expecting it to dissapear.

He has also started growling when eating at my other cat.

Is there anyway i can tackle this?

I know you can buy special bowls for dogs that are meant to slow down their eating,i should imagine there is a cat version too

Re: Eating WAAAAY too fast. Advice?

I tried mushing it up. . He just sticks his whole face in it and crabs as much as possible and just swallows.

I tried leaving it in huge chunks and he takes it out his dish and smears it everywhere whilst gulping down huge amounts and growls at skunk whilst doing it.

I tried feeding them seperatly. Didnt help.

Im out of ideas now.

Maby get a squirt gun and squirt him (so he doesnt seee me doing it) with it when he goes in for the kill and make him wait for it?

Can you define 'separately' - in different locations from each other or at different times?

DON'T do this - you will not make the situation any better. I take it you are talking about Rogue.... He is still very young and kittens have big growing spurts and can eat for England sometimes. Maybe he's needing a bit more food or you need to break it down into more meals with smaller portions.

What type of food are you feeding - wet or dry?

Unless you want your kitty to be scared of eating.

If they are kittens I would just let them eat! Benji is 16 weeks old and chows down 300-400 grams of Grau/Macs/Schmusy a day. If he eats so fast he makes himself sick however, you can buy special bowls on e.g. zooplus that makes them eat slower.

I feed them at the same time but in different rooms and he is getting wet food 4 times a day in 50-60g meals.

He also grazes on dry when ever he wants. I cannot allow him to eat all he wants even at 8 monthes old because he turns into a barrel with legs

Are you able to feed him say 6 times but with a bit less in each portion? If he is really active, he'll be burning off what he is eating very quickly. Think of what teenagers are like - at 8 months, this is your cat.

Re: Eating WAAAAY too fast. Advice?

Just let him eat, seriously. If you wanna see barrel with legs let me show you this...

This was Mush about a month ago. Now he is completely the right 'shape' He was the epitome of a barrel with legs but kittens will burn it off.

Start to worry at 1 if he is continuing but this young, dont.

I have a gobble stop bowl from zoo plus on the suggestion of someone on this forum and it helps a lot with Lillie - she was bolting her food down so fast that on occasions she was bringing it back up again. I also now feed her three times a day which helps too.
