Applaws Cat food Help

Hi there,

I have finally found a cat food that my picky boy will eat. He was previously on whiskas and have now got him on Applaws.

The only problem is it is expensive. Does any one know of a food which is similar but cheaper?

Thanks all

Em xxx

Are you talking about the wet or dry food? (I think the wet food is only complimentary = just a treat not an everyday food)

The dry food is quite cheap if you buy a big bag on zooplus website.

Yes it's the wet food (he has dry food to graze on). I thought it was ok for an evening meal????

Oh dear

Yes the wet food is complementary which is unfortunate as it's so easily available and a lot of cats seem to like it! If you are feeding it alongside a complete food then it may not matter, depending on how much of the complete food you feed. I'm sure Hobbs will be along soon to clarify.

However do check out Hobbs' entry in the A-Z for Applaws wet: A-Z of wet food for cats

Mine have that as their main wet food (interspersed with some raw & some other brands like Purely and Porta 21), but they also have Applaws Dry & James Wellbeloved (mixed togther as they prefer the JWB) to pick at. Is this a problem?

Typical! It's the only one he likes!!! I have tried him on Smilla which he didn't like also tried Bozita with no better luck. Any suggestions for things to try which will be good for him. I didn't realise this was not a good everyday food.

He usually eats his dry food and has a small amount of wet food at tea time.

Ahh right, most dry foods are complete (as far as I know) so they'll be getting their essential nutrients from the dry. I think it's only a worry feeding a complementary wet food if that's their only food.

Right I follow,

With this being expensive I would prefer it be good for him

I think I'm still going to try and find something better. I just don't know what to do for the best for my picky little Moriarty. The way he is going he is going to end up on just a dry diet. I would rather he had some wet through as well.

If it's all he likes, maybe adding a supplement to it will at least ensure it has more vitamins. Maybe try Felini Complete: great deals on cat food and supplements at zooplus

Mine don't like Bozita or Smilla either, they do like Yarrah chunks, so maybe you could try some of that. Smells quite good as well.

Re: Applaws Cat food Help

I've got a selection of the better quality wet foods for our kittens to try. They're currently on Felix and I want to get them off that once they're settled in. We've got a cupboard full of different brands and I'm hoping they're not fussy but they are cats so probably will be.

We've got a few tins each of Applaws, Bozita, Smilla, Animonda Carny, Grau (all available from ZooPlus), Lily's Kitchen (available online), Mac's, Pfotenliebe, Petnatur, Tigercat (only available from German websites) aaaand I can't remember what else. Oh and we're having a delivery of some Darling's raw food too (online only). So it'll be a case of experimenting with the different brands once they are settled.

I guess every cat is different though (and I bet ours like different things to each other!) so it is probably just a case of trying various foods on them!

Have you tried Grau? I don't know how that works out in comparison to Applaws (price-wise) but you can get it from Zooplus and it's meant to be one of the best foods available in the UK, if not THE best.
