Cat Bit, Bad Limp

Hi All,

My cat was bit by "something" on Wednesday evening, I noticed Thursday morning and took him immediately to my vet. The vet gave him antibiotics, gave me some pain meds for him and told me to bring him in for a follow up on Thursday of this week. I've noticed his limp has gotten substantially worse in the past couple days, do you think it's just the healing process? He's gotten a bit more active so I'm wondering if him walking around has made it a bit more sore. He's only 5 and I'm a bit concerned. Thanks in advance, just looking for some opinions.

P.S. He's eating/drinking and purring when I pet him

Re: Cat Bit, Bad Limp

Has the "bite wound" become swollen - is it filled with pus? I would be inclined to give your vet a ring this morning and tell them his limp is worse - he may ask you to bring him in today instead of tomorrow.

Cats can also purr when they are in pain.
jill3 and Dally Banjo like this.

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure his purring is out of loving (he's only purring when I pet him and he comes to lay on me). but I did call my vet and am taking him in shortly. He can't walk on the leg at all now, I don't notice any swelling but he is sensitive to the touch. Just hoping my vet has some answers, I hate seeing him in pain like this

Re: Cat Bit, Bad Limp

It sounds like an abcess may have developed - a common occurence after a bite. The vet may be able to drain it or might try some stronger drugs. If the cat is very sensitive though, it may need to be knocked out and the actual abcess lanced.

It sounds worse than it is though so no need to worry overly much.
