def kitty is on a distinguished road
Re: Please advise -Vacinations

Good question, it doesn't work differently for cats. It's just that if antibodies are high you know for sure they don't need a booster. But if they're low it could mean they need a booster or it could mean they don't - I suppose in that case most vets and cat owners would choose to give a booster just in case.

Older healthy cats immune systems are strong to fight many viruses..I myself have decided to not get my cat boostered as she is always indoors and may only go outside sometimes to the garden on the leash...
To this day, I believe that getting the 4 vaccines all at one time was his undoing. I felt it was just TOO much for a wee kitty to cope with. This concept had just come onto the market and was still in its infancy. My understanding - from my new brilliant vet - is that the vaccines are better now than they were 10 years ago.

Merson had his full set - initial jab & follow up 3 weeks later. It was just after the last one that he fell ill. He never got another vaccine jab until April of this year and that was only because quite a few new cats have come into our area but they don't all look well cared for. That also answers your question about him going out. Yes he did & does. Always has and he loves it.

However - Havoc posted a VERY interesting piece from the FAB recently about boosters being given before 12 month due date would mean only one further booster required to give lifelong immunity. An option that I am most DEFINITLEY considering for my three going forward. I have always thought that we over vaccinate and it is a relief to know that many other think so too.

It is difficult to know what is right & what is wrong with vaccines. My old Slugger never had a vaccine in his life, lived to a good old 17 years and only had a health problem twice - both times with his thyroid.
