hey i've got a couple of queiries on kitten nutrition and stuff xx

hey everyone i've recently got a pair of baby girls and my memory's a bit foggy when it comes to feeding etc...........

firstly i was wondering should kittens eat wet food?? and from what age.
[3 kittens, one 10months, 2 8 weeks.]

secondly how much dry food should a 8 week kitten have per meal? [i know the average but just want to check im not mistaken]

should kitten poo smell like cowpat? when my girlies arrived they had solidish potbellies and waddled when they walked, when they poop it reeks of cowpat..... but the more they poop the softer there tummies is feeling.. could there be something wrong? or might it just be worms? [they're going to the vet on weds to get a health check]

any idea what the age they can have the cat flu and cat leukemia vaccines? i think its about 15 weeks but i think im wrong.

finally, as petty as this sounds, do girl cats fight? boy cats fight for territory, or so i hear, but will my girls fight? or should they be alright.........

thanks in advance xxx

Kittens can eat wet food from the moment they wean.

Wet food is usually preferable to dry food in consideration of hydration.

Try not to limit what your young kittens eat. Free feed if you're feeding dry, the kittens will naturally stop eating when they're full. Kittens will eat little and often due to their small tummies and their great requirement of nutrition for growing, so they will usually pop back every couple of hours for some more food. If you fee wet food only, you'll need to feed 5-6 times a day. Different food will tell you different "feeding regulations", but I always take it with a pinch of salt. Just watch how your kitten grow, cut back if they're getting fat rather than big. You should monitor your kittens weight, at 8 weeks they should be 800g (or more) each.

Solid potbellies could be worms, but best ask your vet. Kitten poo can be really smelly and should get better with age, however, the smell can be affected by the type and quality of food you're feeding.

Kittens should get their first vaccination at 8-9 weeks and second set 3-4 weeks later.

All cats can fight, girls and boys, even littermates. It can be worse when they reach sexual maturity and are not neutered. Please neuter your kittens when they get to 6 months old to reduce incidence of fighting. I've found neutered girlcats to be more territorial than neutered boycats, but that's just my limited experience.

thankyou for the advice on the feeding, im just giving them dry for now. im just leaving a bowl with about 80g food in out during the day and then again over night. this seems to be enough to feed all the kittens as they are preferring sharing bowls.

i've discovered they do indeed have worms, and we're visiting the vet wednesday to get wormer and healthchecks babies weigh 700g and 750g

im definitely getting them neutured as soon as they're old enough as i do not particularly want litters, and sola [my 10 month] was unbearable on heat.

thanks so much
