But I have yet to calculate how much sodium it adds on dry matter basis, I keep putting it off, I think less than 2% is recommended. So for now I just rely on catinfo.org website, they recommend 3/4 of teaspoon per 1360 grams of food with bone (table salt/potassium salt mix), and I feed about 5 kg per month.
I was wondering whether it was to do with your FLUTD cat.

In my recipes I try to achieve a 2.1:1 potassium (K) to sodium (Na) (or what I know as Kalium to Natrium) ratio. I think if you were to look it up then nutritionally people would say that one should strive for a 1:1 ratio but if you look at the little knowledge we have of prey animals and the nutrient make-up then they seem to consist of more K to Na.

Yes, fine, as long as it is pure and not cut with other substances.

That is very helpful, thank you! I was actually wondering if I should mix table salt with potassium salt at all, because the levels without any salt added seemed to be about 2:1 in favor of potassium so I thought adding table salt alone would make it more even. But now I see it doesn't need to be even, which makes sense, if the 80:10:5:5 diet is as close as we can get to the composition of actual pray, and if that diet gives you twice as much potassium than sodium, then that's how it should be.

Re: Need home made kibble recipes!

Is unfrozen minced beef considered ground? Or lacking in taurine?

Re: Need home made kibble recipes!

Yes, grinding/mincing destroys taurine in meat.

Freezing most likely doesn't affect taurine levels, but it lowers vitamin B levels, which is why we shouldn't keep meats frozen for a long time and/or should give cats additional vitamin B.

Meats that contain the most taurine are muscles that work the hardest, like heart, or leg muscles.
