Am I feeding my kitten the right amount?
Hi all
I have 2 ocicats that are now 18 weeks old they are mostly indoor but do play in the garden. I am feeding them James Welbeloved twice a day and occansionally felix kitten pouches and their water fountain. They have 40g each in the morning and about 35g each in the evening. They alway eat it all but according to the guide on the pack this is more than they should have at this age. Am I over feeding them, I don't want to make them fat. Thanks CB. |

Re: Am I feeding my kitten the right amount?
You can't really overfeed kittens but I would consider switching to a better quality wet food and more of that than dry. They need to eat a lot at this age as they are still growing - think teenager

Re: Am I feeding my kitten the right amount?
Thanks Both my kittens are already neutered as the male was starting to mount his sister and I didn't want any accidents and the vet was happy to do it as oriental cats mature quicker according to her. I was planning on continuing them on the felix wet food as they were on that when I got them but they used to leave it and eat all the dry food so I have been reducing it to get rid of what stock I have then was just going to keep they on dry. My previous cats (about 10 years ago) only ever had dry but science plan not James welbeloved it's all so confusing. They do drink lots more now that they have the water fountain. I weighed them today which was traumatic for both of us. Kimba is 2.4kg and deagle is 2.8kg he has always been bigger.

Re: Am I feeding my kitten the right amount?
At least they're not underweight, which is good. I have read somewhere that neutering earlier than 6 months can result in bigger cats.
I wouldn't worry too much about the feeding quantity unless your kittens are looking/feeling obese. They're still young so there's still some growing to do. The guideline of seeing whether a cat is overweight or not has to do with observation and feeling for their ribs when you stroke your cats.
