Unhappy cat weeing everywhere!

Ive had quite a few issues with my female cat, and for the past 5 months she has been weeing everywhere.

Vet put off her spaying thinking it may have been an infection, but nothing was found. Was told that spaying when she is doing this could cause problems?

Has anyone any suggestions? never had a female before. Also can you suggest anything to stop her?

I think Ive tried all the commercial cleaners and the only thing that has taken the smell away is four paws industrial super strength stain and odor remover.

She doesnt do it in the same place, and does all her no 2s in the litter trays (we have 2 one upstairs and 1 down as we have to lock her upstairs when we go out)

Im at my wits end. Her particular favourite is on washing and in my bags

Thanks, Tori x

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

I would go to another vet personally for another opinion, i would have thought it's best to get spayed asap because it could very well be the reason for the weeing if no other cause has been found. It can be really distressing for a cat to keep being in heat.

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

Agree totally with Gem16 .Female cats can spray when not neutered just like males and leaving her unneutered can cause health issues as well as unwanted pregnancy. How old is she.

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

she is a rescue so only have a rough age. We got her in october 2009 and she was meant to be 6 months.

Is there any reason that spaying could cause her problems that you know of?
The vet gave us a list of reasons and just wondered if anyone had the same thoughts?

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

In my humble opinion that's ridiculous for your vet to advise against spaying for such a long period. It will be far more to her detriment to leave her unspayed. Please find her another vet and book her for a check up and in for spaying asap. Her being unneutered is possibly a big contributor to the fact she is piddling everywhere and it is also possible she could have a water infection. I know you have only gone with what your vet advised but really it is in her best interests to be neutered.

Do keep us updated.

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

thanks everyone, I will certainly go and get advice from another vet. Im terrified incase she gets pregnant again. We cant even open windows as we are scared she will get out, and its been so hot recently.

I definately want her spayed. All my females have been, and my male cat was also. Not worth the risk of not doing it, both pregnancy and health benefits.

Re: cat weeing everywhere!

Did the vet test the urine for infection? It's perfectly possible she still has an undetected one or one which has failed to clear up completely. I would have her retested again at the new vets.

I would also try changing the litter you're using and see if it makes a difference. I found one of my females started urinating outside the tray when I once changed to a new, harder consistency one!

Tobacat is on a distinguished road
Re: cat weeing everywhere!

You mentioned she started weeing in the house about 5 months ago. Can you think of anything which may have scared her around this time?

Also, how often does she wee in the house and roughly how many times a day does she go? As this has been going on so long, you need to rule out medical issues ASAP and at least have a urine sample analysed to rule out/confirm infection, crystals or perhaps cystitis, all of which can be treated. Cats are good at hiding pain and if she has any of these, she will definitely be in pain or discomfort. If you get nowhere with this vet, go to another one. My girl started weeing in the house about 18 months ago and received immediate treatment from my vet - it turned out she had cystitis.
