lump on cats throat?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what it could be?
My mums cat is now 17 1/2 years old (shes doing well ), and she noticed yesterday she had a lump on the left side of her throat area. I went over to have a feel, and its a hard small lump and doesn't feel attached to much?

Was thinking it could be a swollen thyroid gland, possibly hyperthyroidism , as i know its common in older cats. She hasn't been eating well though and isn't nervy and its not painful for her when i touch it (she just purred for the neck tickle!). She has lost weight in the last year but that could be old age?

Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas? Have told mum to take her to the vets to check it out anyway.

Poor paws it may be her thyroid but if she was suffering from hyperthyroidism I would expcet her to be eating loads but not getting fat, vets I think x

TBH, thinking along the same lines as you - thyroid. But definitely a case for a vet. Best of luck!

Edit: Just seen DB's response along the same lines. However, not all HT cats become ravenous...

Re: lump on cats throat?

Yeah from the symptoms its normal they eat loads, skinny, poor coat and nervy.

But the coat and skinny could be old age and the fact she isn't eating alot, but then the other signs say thyroid, esp the lump. hmmmm

Thanks just wanting to make sure im not missing anything else obvious!

Will see what the vets say
