Tempting a CRF cat

Hi All

Just wondered if anyone has any tips for tempting Oscar to eat a bit more.

Ever since he had his steroid and B12 injections his appetite doesn't seem as good as it used to be. He is still eating, and does have days where he is hoovering down his food

I've got a cupboard full of different foods so he doesn't get bored. At the moment I am having to bribe him with Whiskas Temptations in order to get him near his wet food (I know this is not the best thing to be giving him but...). Once he's there he's away Can CRF cat's sense of smell be affected??

I have spoken with the Vet and all he wants to do is pump him with some more steroids, despite the fact that I told him that Oscar wasn't great after he had these done.

Am guessing just like humans he'll have good days and bad with his food.

Other than Oscar not eating as much as I'd like him to he is doing well, even running round the house having the odd mad moment

Any tips/advice gratefully received

Loads of really good advice pulled together here if you haven't already seen it: Tanya's Feline CRF Info Centre - persuading your cat to eat. If you haven't already done so, the rest of the site is a goldmine of info about anything kidney-y and there is also a yahoo group you can join to share and get advice from people who are in your shoes.

Hi Hobbs

Yes I have been reading Tanya's site and am a member of the forum. Thought I would see if any of the wise owls on here had any ideas as well

Ask your vet about Periactin/Cyproheptadine. It is widely used in US as a gentle appetite stimulant but not widely known or used here in UK, although I know Missye did get it from her vet for Sooty.

Thanks PP, I will do. He must know I've been talking about him as he's been back and forth to his food all night
