Any ideas please?

Hi, my 7 year old female cat has developed a 'purple' like colour on her lower jaw and her hair seems to have stopped growing there. She seems ok, occasionally hissing at our 4 month old male but nothing out of the ordinary. She's eating/sleeping fine but i'm a bit worried about her jaw.

I've booked her in at the vets for Monday, but was wondering if anybody knew what it could be?

Thanks

Re: Any ideas please?

Aww bless her

Sounds like she may have bumped it or something, so might be brused. She could have damaged the skin so that's why the hair has stopped growing.

It might be a case of mites?

Is she itching the area at all? Is there any crusty skin on the area? It "might" be a case of ringworm?

Please keep us posted on how she gets on at the vets on Monday.

Hope you get it sorted.

Re: Any ideas please?

bruise is another possibility but i can't see why that would cause hair loss. best to get it checked at the vets! could also be a blood blister of some sort from trauma or an infected tooth in the jaw but i doubt it.

Re: Any ideas please?

I applause the moderators for removeing that part of the thread, what a STUPID thing for an unqualified person to say without even seeing the cat........ you now could have the owner worried so bad. one minute you're telling them not to take too much notice of what they read on the internet and the next thing you're diagnosing a possible cancer......im sorry if this upsets you but i really do think you should stop offering medical advice on this forum.the only advice you should offer without seeing the animal is to take it to a vet ...........full stop.

ok... i didn't say that was what it was for sure though! just said that was my guess from the description nas i had never heard of a bruise with hair loss like that. there's nothing wrong with guessing and giving ideas which is what was asked! if anything it might get her to go to the vets if she's worried about it. but fair enough.

Re: Any ideas please?

im sorry hon, but you just summed it all up in one word "guessing"....you cant make a guess and tell someone that their cat could have cancer. . surely all that could have done is worry the owner even more

Re: Any ideas please?

I have to agree with Chris on this one. The lady did say she was taking the cat to the vets on Monday anyway. But sorry, you can't say cancer would be my first guess. The link did'nt make happy reading and I agree, it could of left that poor lady in a state of panic & upset. Some threads just need the owners to be told, sorry we are not sure, best take the cat/kitten to your vets.
