Litter tray behaviour

do your cats act differently before using their trays?

Paddy runs round and round the house like a wild thing. Up and down the stairs, round and round downstairs, on and off the window sills Completely bonkers then we hear the flap on the tray go and the stink soon follows

He only does it when he needs a poo and he's never had any problems with his pooing.

Is it just a crazy cat thing?

Re: Litter tray behaviour

Ari does it after using the toilet. Seems she's running away from the smell. If the window is open, she runs to the balcony to get a fresh air, so fast that we're always afraid she won't be able to stop and might fly down to the garden!

My girl does exactly the same as Paddy, she goes bonkers for a minute or two before she poops. Apparently it's not that usual and far more common they act like that afterwards. I did mention this to the vet and they said that in some cats it can occasionally be a sign that something is causing them pain when they go (impacted anal glands, constipation etc), others are just nutty

If he's always been the same I guess he must be one of the nutty ones

Re: Litter tray behaviour

eek:eek:
oh my god, seriously, just as I am writing through this thread, Thomas has been doing exactly the same thing!!!
The only thing is he was meowing like a baby when he's in the litter tray 'digging' a toilet hole and then he just started running around at 200mph, up and down the sofa and chairs!
He was absolutely mental and now he's sat next to me watching me typing this message...

One question, what does it mean when he meows when digging his toilet hole???? is that some sort of complaint? I make sure I clear his tray regularly though... :S

Re: Litter tray behaviour

Lenin does this. She bolts around for a bit, jumps in the massive litter tray (biggest we could find) and digs a hole, throws litter everywhere and then decides she's not ready and runs around a load more.

When she eventually does go, she props herself up with her front paws on the wall like some kind of 3am drunkard! (Apparently she copies what I do)

When she's done I pull my shirt over my nose and go in and flush it.

>>edit - I forgot to mention that Lenin loves pooing, I have never known a cat look so content as when Lenin drops one off.

Re: Litter tray behaviour

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a cat with crazy behaviour! Mine is fairly normal before she goes in the tray, but when she comes out, if she's had a poo, she'll cheer and shout until you tell her she's done a good job! And I'm not kidding! Unless you tell her well done, she carries on cheering for minutes on end!

haha that's amazing. Mine runs around at uber high speed and I can't even join in because he'd get playfully aggressive...
