Tumour

My beautiful girl has had an op today to remove a possible tumour Its just below her scruff where commonly cats can develop very aggressive tumours. Results should be in tomorrow or Mon.

Poor thing is so so unhappy, it's a 4inch long incision!!!! And she has a buster collar on which means she keeps hitting into things and frightening herself. She's shut on her own as the other girls keep attacking her because of the collar too

Anyone know of these types of tumour and had personal experience?

Also. Anyone know how to stop her scratching. Vet suggested socks on back paws but how on earth do you keep them on? They keep coming off!

Sorry to hear about your cat! I hope the biopsy yields positive results. Even if it turns out to be something nasty it has been removed now.

Are you aware of comfy collars ( google ) which are far more comfortable for the cat. Mind you if the incision if just below her scruff are you sure she needs one? It is a very difficult place for a cat to lick or scratch.

Fingers crossed for the results and keep us posted!

Re: Tumour

I am so sorry to hear that, best wishes to you and your girl! *hugs*

For a tumour below the scruff I would assume it's vaccine associated sarcoma.

Re: Tumour

Hopefully most vets nowadays are using the vaccine other than the aluminium adjucant one which is the one associated with VAS.

Unfortunately because the incision is so long, quarter of her back, she'd be able to get her head around to lick the bottom part

Have heard of those comfy collars and did consider it but they had to put this one on when she was under g.a as after he spay they couldn't get one near her! Not sure I'd be able to get another one on her as there's no way of holding or restraining her without hurting her, poor thing!

Thankyou all for your well wishes

Re: Tumour

Poor thing! Yes, she does sound very sore indeed. Is she on any painkillers? I can't help but feel this collar is adding to all the stress though and I'd order one just in case. Handy to have one around anyway.

She's certainly more of a contortionist than my lot - can't imagine them ever reaching those places!! Maybe when I'm not looking!

Hope biopsy results are good. Even if it is VAS lots of cats have been treated successfully.

Purevax is the only non-adjuvanted brand that I know of, but I am not sure how widely used it is

Merial Canada Cats Purevax Rabies
Merial Canada Purevax Feline Leukemia

Nearly all FVRCP vaccines are non-adjuvanted, though.

Re: Tumour

As far as I'm aware vets have been advised to switch to the safer ones, though as you say it's impossible to know the levels of compliance here and how many have taken this on board!!

It's well worth asking vets about this!

Re: Tumour

Oh yes, but by safer they usually mean rabies vaccines given once a year as opposed to every three years, both are still adjuvanted though (I think non-adjuvanted rabies vaccine is a novel concept, I'm not even sure in how many countries it's been registered so far.)
