Anyone feed Ziwipeak?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone here feeds their cat Ziwipeak? I feed it to my dog but am considering changing my cat who has IBD onto it.

She's used to free feeding but I don't know if the Ziwipeak would be suitable for that?

Thanks

Re: Anyone feed Ziwipeak?

Do you mean the ZP dry or the tinned food McKenzie? Personally, i wouldn't just want to feed just dry food to any cat - never mind one that has suspected IBD. Fair enough, the ZP jerky has slightly more moisture than "normal" dry food but it is still a long way removed from the moisture content found in wet food.

The wet food has been reformulated a while ago for cats - the lamb one used to be really fatty but that has now been brought back in line with the rest of the range. However, it is a lot of money when you can find something just as good for less money.

You don't want to go down the proper raw route for your girl?

Re: Anyone feed Ziwipeak?

I guess I was thinking about the dry as she's always been on kibble (refused to eat the wet of the prescription foods). I never knew that she shouldn't be on dry food for IBD - is that something to do with the digestive process?

I would consider going 'proper raw' with her but until December my mum's looking after her and I don't think it's really an option for her, which is why I was thinking the ZP until then. Unfortunately we don't have a huge range of foods available in NZ.

Are there any foods you can think of that you would suggest feeding her Hobbs? And then I could see if I can find it or something similar in NZ?

I actually feel really frustrated that for all these years I trusted what vets were telling me about food and I know now that there could have been something better for her. Better late than never I guess, although I still don't know all that much about cat food.

Re: Anyone feed Ziwipeak?

Boy oh boy, I have just had a browse through some online NZ pet shops. The cat food situation over there is DIRE. Absolutely appalling by the looks of it. So, I am not going to whet your appetite and tell you about the great foods you could get here (or easily shipped to the UK) but perhaps your best bet would be to either continue with the food you currently give her or try the ZP on her until you get there in December when you can start trying her on some raw food (there seem to be some interesting raw food providers in NZ though).

Hope that helps
