Worms or Pregnancy?

Hi all, I've recently took in a stray cat. She's a lovely little thing but her belly is really big (I'm talking major pot belly). I've had her to the vets to be checked over as she's really skinny apart from the belly & I've got some worming stuff for her as it's best to worm her & flea her anyway, but I noticed that her belly was moving about as though there was things under the skin. Now the thing is the vets said that he didn't think she was pregnant but I'm now wondering with her belly moving, Could that be the worms or could it be that she's pregnant?

Any help with this would be great as I'm getting a little confused, could the vet be wrong?

Re: Worms or Pregnancy?

I doubt you would be able to see worms moving! I would take her back to the vets and repeat what you have told us and ask them to do a proper exam to find out if she is pregnant.

Re: Worms or Pregnancy?

A picture would really help but if you can see her belly moving I would say this is a sure sign that she is pregnant and quite far along.

Re: Worms or Pregnancy?

You couldn't see worms as they would be in the stomach/intestines not on the surface, sounds like if there is movement she must be pregnant, have you noticed any change in her behaviour as well?
yeh put up some pics of her belly and nipples! and get a check up with your vet aswell

How recently ,is recently? Did you get the worming meds and flea treatment from the vet.TBH I would be taking her back to the vets again as all we can do on a forum is to guess.Have you any idea how old she is.If she is pregnant and young you really need to be prepared for any possibilities. If she is as thin as you say her health may not be good so pregnancy will really put a strain on her.If she isnt pregnant get her spayed as soon as the vet thinks she is able.Good luck with her and please keep us updated. You will need to increase her food intake now and if she goes out ,I would recommend that you keep her indoors from now on.

Re: Worms or Pregnancy?

I took her in about 4 weeks ago now & she went streight to the vets, she was flead & wormed then & the vets recomended I did it again when I took her back for a checkup on tuesday & they gave me some more stuff for her to be re done on saturday. I don't know how old she is or anything though but she's not a kitten, deffinetly over a year old. Her health still isn't the best but she's a lot better than what she was.

I phoned the vets about 10 mins ago & spoke to one of the the vets there that were free. Even though neither of the vets picked up on her been pregnant when I took her she did say that with what I've desribed it deffinetly sounds like she is pregnant. She also said that it can be a little difficult to tell if they are pregnant without thorough checks, but I don't know if she was just saying that.

Here are some pics of her belly, sorry about the quality.

Re: Worms or Pregnancy?

I'm no expert and have never had a pregnant queen ,but from all that I have picked up on here I would be prepared to bet she is pregnant .Has she ever "called" for a male while you have had her,as in yelling, rolling about and sticking her bum in the air,if not then that ,unless she was already spayed ,would also lead me to suspect she was pregnant. If she is you may not have long to read up on all you need to know/collect for her before she gives birth.Best get prepared Good luck.Someone with more experience will I'm sure be along soon.
