Re: Very sick boy

What a complete nightmare indeed. Thanks for keeping us up to date and I'm so relieved Bloo seems to be better. They do worry us, don't they? The hyperventilating I've done in the past over my cats is just plain embarrassing
Nice to see Bloo's so eloquent though

Any advice on the best possible care to ensure that he doesn't develop any heart issues or if he has something wrong, the best care to make sure it doesn't get worse? The vet did say he doesn't have a murmur, so that is ruled out. I'm sure there are other threads about it, and I'll trawl those tonight for hints.

Thanks again to everyone who posted as it looks like we have a pretty happy ending, albeit one with a bit of a scare...
The increased heart rate with the fluids could well be a one off for all sorts of reasons but at the same time it's something to keep an eye on, just in case.

If you really wanted to rule out a heart condition early, you could ask to be referred to a cardiologist. Discuss with the vet.

Glad to hear he responded well to treatments.

Re: Very sick boy

Well it was really nice for me knowing that other people were available to talk to and send Bloo some nice thoughts, especially considering it was such a positive outcome. Kept me from continually worrying about him and I also didn't touch Google to do my own diagnostic research, which always ends up with me thinking the worst.

He is home and has really perked up over the night and morning. I think he was so relieved to have us pick him up and to come back to his nice little house. He does seem to think that we are all overreacting and turned his nose up and the white fish, and then the chicken that was lovingly prepared for him so as not to upset his tummy. His little paw with the clipped section got a big wash but we told him he was still handsome, even missing a bit of his leg stripe. He will even tolerate us shoving the pills down his throat with minimum fuss so I don't really have much more to worry about now.

He did get the chance to scoff some dry food and cried at me when I took it away so I know he has his appetite back. I begrudgingly let him eat a few pieces every 15min once I gave up on the bland food. It didn't go to waste however as Freckle loves nothing more than 'human' food prepared specially for him...

This morning he was allowed a teaspoon of bozita (his favourite) every 15min or so and he's kept everything down, used the toilet and snuggled up to his Dad all night long. I missed out on sleeping in the bed in favour of the couch with Freckle, in interest of not irritating him further by locking him out and showering 'the imposter' with love. Second night of bad sleep for me, but worth it if I can help out the terrible two.

After keeping them apart for the night while switching rooms so they can smell each other, carrying them past each other, and rubbing them both with a tshirt time and time again, we let them meet up again this morning. I can still smell a hospital smell on Bloo so I'm sure it's very strong to Freckle. He is more tolerant this morning but will still hiss and swipe once he gets a whiff. It's so sad to watch as Bloo wants nothing more than to play and they both run towards each other, really excited, and look happy until Freckle can smell Bloo. Then he flips out, runs off and Bloo just sits there looking confused. Still it's only a matter of time before Bloo smells normal again and they can hang out together.

In the mean time I've moved some bowls so there is easy access to water all around the house and they do have a bit of dry food. Once Bloo was given Bozita he turned his nose up at the dry as well (not that he is fussy) and they are under supervision this morning so it should turn out OK.

Looking forward to hanging out with them both on the weekend, and shopping online for kitty booties. Bloo tried coming to work with me today and looked most unimpressed to be told he was confined to the house until I decide otherwise. I'll take some photos of him this evening and post up. With a bit of luck I might get one of them together
