Unhappy Teeth problems

Hi, what should i do?

My old she cat (13yrs old) has been to the vet as she had trouble with drooling, also one of her canines has grown longer than the other one. We were advised to bring her in for a clean up of her teeth, but this would involve her staying in and being put under anaesthetic. She really hates the vet and gets very upset when we get the basket out to take her, never mind having to stay over! Would this procedure be very pricey? not that it is an issue.

Is there any other way i can clean her teeth myself? what about dry cat food, is that better for the teeth than wet food?

Re: Teeth problems

I've just ordered some Molar Pro Den Plaque Off for my boys as one is starting to get some plaque. I've also seen the kitten and cat toothbrushes and toothpaste and think I'll give that a try if my husband agrees... apparently he thinks it's silly and that I baby the cats too much. (I think he's just worried that I'll make him do one of the boys...)

Will let you know how it goes, but hopefully someone else on here already has experience with it?

TBH if the vet has recommended that your cat needs a scale and polish then I think it is the only way to get her teeth as they should be.Once this is done you could then look at cleaning her teeth on a regular basis either by brushing/using plaque removal prep. or eating some raw food such as chicken wings. As for the cost this will vary between vets so cant really advise sorry.Dry cat food, unless it is specifically for the purpose is worse than useless for cleaning teeth .Most cats either swallow the kibble whole or crunch it once and swallow.
Vampyria likes this.
