Underweight Kitten

I have a 10 week old kitten that hasn't had the best of starts in life and is underweight at 800g I suspect due to the nasty dose of worms she had that I have treated over the weekend with Panacur and sorted them, however she has a dose of fleas too and as the destructions for Frontline say not to be used for "kittens less than 8 weeks old and/or weighing less than 1kg"

She seems to be doing ok, full of energy and its doing all the usual kitten stuff like "my first climb of the curtains" followed by "my first blast with the air duster" and her fur has gone glossy because I used a tip I got told years back by a vet to give her scrambled egg (without milk and salt) I have her on Purina One Kitten dried after I tried her with Iams Kitten and she wouldn't eat it, I suspect due to the shape of them and a little mouth.

I was going to pick up some wet cat food later today to try her with that but I I wouldn't mind a few suggestions for feeding her up, she seems to like "human food", likes steak, wont touch fish and went nuts for Jersey Royal potato's the other night and I woke up to find her eating left over Spicy Beef Rahman noodles last night when I dozed off of the sofa.

Re: Underweight Kitten

Have you considered feeding her raw meat? You can buy specially prepared raw for cats from a few companies on line. (Natural Instinct, Darlings and RawtoGo are worth looking at) These foods have the right balance of nutrients for cats which might not be the case if you prepare it yourself. Have a look at the sticky in this section:
Thinking about raw feeding - a basic guide
I have found raw works wonders in building my queen up after kittening.
If you don't fancy raw, try a food with a high meat content. HiLife and Natures Menu are easily available - it doesn't have to be specific kitten food. If you can buy online in bulk there are a lot of very good foods available. See the other sticky: A-Z of wet food for cats
Ask your vet about a suitable flea treatment for her

Re: Underweight Kitten

One of my kittens had fleas, although he was too small for frontline the vet used some spray on de-flea treatment that was suitable for smaller kittens (he was 7 weeks and weighed less than yours at the time) so it can be treated.

Mine eat a combination of Nature's Menu, Grau and Lily's Kitchen wet (mixing the expensive stuff with the much less expensive stuff to keep the average at an acceptable level) and they're doing really well on it. All my decision-making was based on the "A-Z of wet foods" thread so is definitely worth a look to make an informed decision.

Re: Underweight Kitten

I should also add that my vet gave him the flea treatment free of charge along with a general health check, obviously I couldn't comment on whether your vet would do the same, but it's definitely worth talking to your vet.

Re: Underweight Kitten

OK was going to pick up some wet kitten food in Waitrose, not my normal shopping place but I am near there this after noon at the doctors so I will see what they have in the "posh range" failing that its Felix Kitten which all my old cats used to love (this is my first cat in 10 years)

Re: Underweight Kitten

Waitrose do some better stuff - I think they have HiLife but failing that their own brand goes down well with my son's cat and is very reasonably priced too.

Re: Underweight Kitten

Pretty dire if your a kitten actually the only had the choice between Felix Kitten and Waitrose's Own brand so I went for Waitrose as it had more meaty options in it, the Chicken didn't touch the sides last night and she is munching her way through the turkey as I type this.
