Pancreatitis

Hello, does anyone have any experience of pancreatitis? My 13 year old boy has just been diagnosed and the vet recommended an intestinal diet. I'm guessing my choices are from Hills, Royal canin and purina but just wondered if anyone has used any of these. I know the vet will suggest one but I would like some ideas of the best of the bunch if possible. Thanks Elaine

Re: Pancreatitis

Hi there,
I would suggest you join up at Home | Diabetic Cat Care as there is a very useful ' Pancreatitis 101' which gives lots of information about supplements you can use to help your cat.
You will need to apply to join the forum, but don't have to own a diabetic cat to do so.

Re: Pancreatitis

Thanks Paddypaws.

I'll take a look. I hate it when there is a new diagnosis to suddenly try and get my head round!

PaddyPaws

Thank you so much for the direction to the brilliant Diabetic cat site. I would have never thought of looking at it, as my cat isn't diabetic. I received my account approval today and have just read pancreatitis 101. I feel so much more positive as I now feel I have a clearer steer of how I can help Olly manage this condition.

Firstly, I was pleased my vet did the FPLI test for diagnosis and didn't bother doing unecessary scans and xrays. I must admit I still don't fully understand the prognosis but do know it can lead to other condtions including diabetes. There seems a wealth of imformation on the site. I am going to print off the pancreatitis 101 and take it to my vet to discuss a treatment plan. They are quite pro supplements and this has confirmed even more that it's a wet only diet for Olly.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know about the site, especially as I notice your Nellie is in the 'hotel' at the moment. I hope you can bring her home soon and she gets over this little episode.
