New kitten

Hi everyone
I've been trawling through the pages of advice on this excellent website.
We got our kitten 2 weeks ago and have been feeding the same as the breeder quick is felix kitten, royal canin kitten biscuit, whole milk goats milk and water.
Is it ok to continue with the goats milk which he does drink and obviously prefers to milk?
Before reading the forums I started to introduce natures menu kitten which he seems to like, but pets at home only had the one flavour and I realise now from the a-z that its not the best and has sugar content (does anyone know how much?). So I'm thinking of trying animonda carny, Grau and bozita wet foods. Is there any benefit to ordering the kitten foods in these?
I also want to change the royal canin to orijen. Obviously this is all going to be done over a period of time.
One last question. How does everyone store their open cans/pouches. Food straight from the fridge gives him hiccups, so put a klippit on the kitten pouches and store in the cupboard and use within the day. But the tetrapacks are big so will prob last a couple of days.
Thanks

Re: New kitten

Hello and welcome to the forum
I've never given mine milk of any kind but I believe that goat's milk is fine for cats to drink as a treat. Many cats are lactose intolerant so I wouldn't give them cow's milk.
Nature's Menu kitten only comes in one flavour but if you are going to feed a high meat content food there is no need to use specific kitten food. I don't think Bozita or Grau do kitten. I use the Bozita tetrapacks sometimes and store them in the fridge but if that causes your kitten problems you could take it out about half an hour before feeding or warm it slightly in a microwave first.
Good luck with finding the right food for your kitten and we really need to see some pictures of him

Re: New kitten

Welcome and congratulations on your new kitten!
I'm no specialist but that's what happened to my cat:

• I started giving her cat milk and probiotic yoghurt to improve her liquid intake but then I noticed she was forming a huge amount of calculus on her back teeth, so now I give them just as a treat.

• I gave her Felix for a couple of weeks and slowly moved to Smilla, Animonda and Bozita. All the adult type. Kitten food has a higher protein content than the adult version in the supermarket brands like Felix but the quality brands are already very high in protein so you can feed the adult type.

• I feed a rotation of Orijen, Applaws and Acana for the "in-between-meals" time. If your kitten is anything like mine, will love Orijen and eat every little kibble you put in the plate.

• I store the cans in the fridge with a plastic lid. I usually have two cans opened because my kitten has gone off Smilla and would just eat it when mixed with other brands. And she doesn't mind cold food. I wouldn't keep the food unrefrigerated as it's moist and full of yummy stuff and would be growing nasty bacteria very fast. I've read in the forum that someone nukes them in the microwave for a few seconds. Check if the food is not too warm because, for example, my cat won't eat warm food.
PS: A 400g tin of Animonda doesn't last 18 hours at home. She absolutely loves it.

Re: New kitten

If she's enjoying the Natures Menu then the adult version comes in three flavours and the latest recipe has no sugars added (the amount was very small anyway). I actually rate it as a good quality easily accessible food, my only gripe would be that the Taurine content appears quite low.

Re: New kitten

Thanks for the replies.
Lynmorelyn/Ali82: With Natures menu adult would i need to reintroduce that food, or is it the same as the kitten that I am already giving him? Will put a picture up when I have worked out how to do it!
Tatilie: So I need to wean him off the goats milk a bit, so will start by just putting it down during the day with just water at night.
I hadn't considered Smilla, is that ok for for a kitten? its a zoo plus own brand is'nt it?
And I think i need to rotate the biscuit in case the recipe changes etc, so Orijen and maybe Applaws if thats available in Pets at Home. I like the idea of being able order on the internet and to buy locally if I run out.
Has anyone tried the Asda tetrapak one, and if so is that ok for a kitten?
