Question Suggestions for dry cat food please.

Hi

Suggestions please I've no idea where to start when it comes to cat food

Could any one recomend a reasonably priced dry cat food which is reasonable quality???

What could I get for around £25 or less (would prefer to buy 10 or 15 kg bag).

Or would I have to spend a bit more than that to get good quality - just after something with no nasty additives / derivatives / etc

Thanks

Re: Suggestions for dry cat food please.

hi,

have a look first in the info about dry (and wet) food in the sticky at the top of the page, very helpful.

The best ones I have found so far are James wellbeloved and Orijen but thats just my view

I don't think you'd be able to get much for something which costs less than £2.50 a kg.

Orijen, Acana and Taste Of The Wild seem the best ingredients wise, but are pretty expensive if you only feed dry food.

Smilla is quite cheap, 8kg for £22.99. It's not grain free but i think cat's would like the beef flavour.

Re: Suggestions for dry cat food please.

Thanks for suggestions! I think I will have to spend a little more than 25 like you've said, but I just want to stop buying the c**p from our local store

Smilla looks quite good value, I've also looked at Bozita Katty cat food with Chicken.

Do I have to watch out for salt??? Or is that ok for cats????

just found this one

Great deals on cat food at zooplus: Porta 21 Feline Finest Sensible - Grain Free

looks pretty good, is grain free, free delivery so no fuel costs going getting it... at £33.99 f0r 10kilo

am looking at trying it next time I need to buy as I'm trying to move my cats on to a grain free diet but am on a tight budget - have just bought applaws at £37.99 for 7.5 kilo so a fair bit more expensive

Re: Suggestions for dry cat food please.

Have you read the reviews on Katty? It says the kibble is really big, so if you've got cats who've had teeth removed they might struggle with it a bit.

Not sure about the salt, obviously no feeding them ready salted crisps, but if it's in the cat food, it must be at a safe level.

You have just discovered that? Have you seen the ash content in that food? And have you noticed that the calcium / phosphorus content is skewed towards too much calcium?

You obviously haven't looked through that A-Z list. But why you would want to purposefully feed a food that contains a cereal as its first ingredient is beyond me. Perhaps you are more used to feeding dogs, who can cope with the cereal load better than cats can.

That's a good price. You could also look at the Porta 21 Feline Finest Adult Cat Food Great deals on cat food at zooplus: Porta 21 Feline Finest Adult Cat it's cheaper at £25.99 for 10kg. It's pretty much the same price as Katty.

Re: Suggestions for dry cat food please.

It's probably worth adding that the feeding quantities need to be taken account of, you will need to feed a fair bit less of the high meat content foods. The feeding cost per day in the A-Z provides a good comparison.
