Red face Arrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

I am collecting my new wee kitty Elmo next weekend but even though I have read the threads on cat nutrition on here my head, is still spinning

Basically I am on a budget, but dont want to feed him/her rubbish food. He has been weaned onto Whiskas kitten food, which I shall be changing asap.

I have a small stock of Whiskas tins for the changeover period, and also some Feline Fayre

What I want is a very simple list of 3 of the best value wet/dry foods I can get either locally or online delivered.

In my local area I have Asda, Tesco, Pets at Home, Sainsbury, Morrisons and B&M so if I can pick up something decent there, that would be a bonus

Also he is to be an indoor cat ( and yes I have heard all the views on this as well) so should that make a difference to the type or amount of food he will need?

TIA

Re: Arrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

I can't recommend Royal Canin highly enough - its not cheap, but what you spend on food you'll more than save on vets bills.

My two are also house cats and I give them Royal Canin Indoor 27 - its a complete food and its good for preventing UTIs, which is a consideration especially for male cats. Obviously yours is too little at the moment for Indoor 27, but I'd recommend Royal Canin. Give your vet a ring if you're in doubt, they're usually very happy to advise free of charge.

Zooplus are very reasonable on price.

Bear in mind it could be what your cat CHOOSES to eat! Trial and error is a great thing I spent a fortune on buying lots of recommended food only for my little madam to turn her nose up at them!

We, well I mean her, has now finally decided on a wet food she likes (Purina Gourmet).... and though it's not the best, I make up with it on a very good dry food (Orijen)

As above, some cats are very picky whilst others will virtually eat anything. You don't say in what proportions you are looking to feed the wet and dry but most would recommend primarily wet with only a bit of dry as a treat / snack.

Smilla and Grau Gourmet are both good quality wet foods that can be had for a reasonable price from Zooplus. Natures Menu is a good food and whilst more expensive than the other two this can be had from PAH as too can Purely which is reasonable aswell.

For dry food, if you are only going to be feeding small amounts the cost differences will be negligible and I wouldn't comprimise on quality, Orijen is probably the best there is but Applaws and Taste of The Wild are other decent options. Again all are available from Zooplus with Applaws also available at PAH and Sainsburys (named Encore).

a budget 'not bad' wet is Butcher's Classic - it has no grain, no sugar and is to all intents and purposes around same quality as Bozita both have 4% 'named' meat then a further 40-60% meat and animal derivatives from mixed source

I have fed my boys Royal Canin Fit 32 for quite a few years but they (RC) have changed it recently - I don't know how exactly but when I soak it in water, it doesn't look the same as it did - and the boys aren't so keen on it as they were. I think they may have upped the grain in it but can't say for certain. I am getting near the end of the 10kg bag that I have and will be moving onto Orijin. I bought a trial bag last week and Merson could smell the contents through the packaging. He was was really going off on one with it. So that bodes well for the change over.....

This is what my cat's like best. They're so picky and i know if i put this down it'll get eaten.

Have a look at Animonda Carney Animonda cat food deals at zooplus: Mixed Savings pack Animonda Carny Adult 12 x 200 g

It's not complete food but for a nice once a week treat food, Cosma Original are pretty tasty. Cosma Original in Jelly. Great deals on Cosma Original Mixed Trial Packs at zooplus.

Do you think Orijen smells (for humans not cats)? I am thinking of changing over to this after my Hills supply runs out but the thought of being able to smell it is offputting. I know you were joking but I think someone else had mentioned its strong smells.

Personally I dont think it smells that strong, certainly have never noticed it and Molly has her bowls in the living room and it's down all day.
