Thank you - can I ask do you have the fish or the chicken - or both?

I haven't opened the bag yet Lumboo but I was being serious when I said that Merson could smell it through the packaging. It might depend on the flavour how strong the smell is. I got the fish one as I know the boys aren't so hot on meat-flavoured dry food so it might be that the fish is stronger smelling.

I'll let you know when we break into it.

Re: Arrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

OP we have the same considerations as you and after some trial and error our mix is roughly

70% Smilla & Animonda carny from zooplus (the large 400g cans; we have 2 cats but still the large tin should last fine for 1 cat). We order this in large quantities so we don't have to take too many days off work for the courier delivery. Smilla is cheaper than Carny (but still high meat content), but the cats seem to like the Carny better.

30% Classic cat food which is made by Butchers and sold in most supermarkets. It is much cheaper than the zooplus stuff and although not perfect, is higher meat than most and helps keep the budget down, and we can pick it up with the weekly shop.

For biscuits, Applaws, but at the moment our cats are on 100% wet. I have thought about switching to orijen but to me it seems a big leap in price for a relatively small leap in quality / meat content.

Good luck - and don't worry if you don't find something perfect immediately. the nutrition stuff can be really overwhelming, and finding a good food your cat will eat can be trial and error; just try not to order a massive amount of anything until you know your cat will eat it (and even then they reserve the right to turn their nose up at it just after you've done a bulk buy of it...)

Also don't stress too much about it; even if you are not buying the ultimate best quality cat food on the A-Z list, anything other than whiskas and felix and your cat is getting better food than probably 90% of the nation's cats! Our cats certainly seem to love the high meat food and we get lots of compliments on their shiny fur and general good condition :-D although people do give me funny looks when I say "I'm not in work tomorrow, waiting for a courier delivery". "Ooh, what is it, anything exciting?" "No, just 92 cans of cat food"...

hah I know the feeling - I get to have a day off college waiting on zooplus - thankfully I am studying animal care and my lecturers get their zooplus deliveries to college! since I don't drive I can't do it that way

since moving my cats on to 80% grain free their weight has improved, Gypsy's gingivitis has improved since going sugar free and their coats are fantastic. I get loads of compliments on their condition at the cat shows
