Re: Geriatric cat
Worrying about furry pawed creatures can have that effect, hope she picks up with a bit of food and encouragement.

Re the nutri gel stuff, were you thinking of this? Nutri Plus Multivitamin Mineral Gel 120g Tube - £7.62 There is also a product called Nutrical, which is more of a calorific, rather than a vits and mins, bomb. Hope Nellie is better soon. |

Re: Geriatric cat
Thanks for all the comments.....I don't know if she is really ill ( although I suspect a bit of a runny tum ) but rather she is just looking really old.
She was always tiny, but looks very scraggy now and her fur is very scurfy despite my grooming and supplementing. She seems to be withdrawing into herself if that makes sense and although I think she has been senile for some time, it seems to have worsened suddenly. She hates being syringe fed and ends up very distressed and covered in crusty cat food.I will probably take her to the vet for a T4 check, even full bloods just to make sure there is nothing obvious, but in my heart I think I am just running out of time with her. ![]() |

Re: Geriatric cat
Sorry to hear this PP! Been waiting here for an update!
Yes, a T4 check etc at the vets first of all, definitely. How are her kidneys by the way? When you mentioned the scurfy coat - in some cases this can indicate dehydration - I'd certainly inform vet of this. I hope this is only a case of digestive upset or reaction to T4 meds or they, like before need adjusting! So perfectly possible this is the case again. Yes, most cats hate assisted feeding but sometimes just having some food can actually kick start their appetites again. Hope she improves very soon! B12 Injections - A lot of older cats and esp HyperT ones have been found to be deficient in this. So something else to consider, since good results with appetite as well as improved condition!
