Question Claws Clipped

Luna went to the vet today to go get her final shot and while she was there she got her claws clipped ( they were getting deadly) anyways so she has been home and seems fine except she cant stop licking hera paws or bitting or something , she also keeps lifting them up ? is she just not used to it?

Re: Claws Clipped

I clipped my twos claws the other day and they were the same chewing on something and licking it for a few days then were totally normal.

I find it quite amusing when Molly has her's done, she cant quite work out why we aren't reacting to her in the normal way, she looks at her paws as if to say 'hang on, something's missing'!! ....... Bliss

I'm a cruel, cruel mummy

Do you clip them yourself? I'm thinking of doing Maisies, she doesn't scratch anything but her scratch pad, it's just her claws ripping down one of the leather sofas, not her fault atall, just wondered if clipping would help or make it worse (raggedy claw marks instead?) lol

We havent attempted it yet! Vet did it the first time, groomer did it this time. It does make a huge difference, Molly loves to scratch at the corner of the sofa!! Also our arms and legs are heaving a huge sigh of relief

We have got some clippers, and are going to attempt it, I really want to keep on top of it as her's seem to grow so quickly.

Re: Claws Clipped

I don't understand why people do this. It seems a terrible thing to do to your cat.

Talking Re: Claws Clipped

Terrible!?!? Oh please!

I guess it depends how much pride you have with regards your house & furniture

15 years of an indoor cat scratching at anything is gunna cause quite a bit of damage

I brush my cat & dog so they don't shed hair everywhere why not clip claws to prevent damage to us, the house & herself (claws getting stuck in the carpet isn't much fun)

She doesn't need them for hunting as she's an indoor cat!?!

She can still happily scratch away at a scratch post & resharpen them

I think it's completely practical

Erm why is it terrible? It doesnt hurt her, if anything she is more comfortable because she cant catch her claws on furniture, rugs etc

I will give you an example of one of my main reasons for keeping Molly's claws short.... we have storage heaters in our living room, they have small grills at the top. A few weeks back Molly was sitting on top of the heater (it was obviously off!!) when she tried to get down, she caught a claw in the grill ..... luckily I was there to grab her before she did any real damage to herself. I would hate to think what might of happened if I hadn't of been there I now choose to keep her claws short, for her own safety and yes for the comfort of me and OH.

Re: Claws Clipped

I clip both my boys and one of them loves it (the other wants to eat the clippers). I wait until he is really relaxed and sleepy then bring out the clippers and he wriggles about, extends his claws and lets me fuss over him. Then there are belly rubs and a very happy kitty.

I don't understand how this is any different to trimming your own nails? My cats are indoor and it doesn't stop them from anything, including climbing up their cat tree at a million miles an hour or nabbing the odd mouse/fly/spider/bug/etc that ventures in.

And your reasons are ? .Would you rather claws were ripped out because they got caught on fabric/scratch post/carpet worse still actually curled under and grew back in to their pads.
