Unhappy after first vaccination

Hello all, I took Thomas to the vet this morning to have his first round of vaccination done. Since we got back home, he's been sleeping for about 3 hours now... Normally whenever there is little stir around him while he's sleeping, he'd wake up quickly and 'investigate' his surrounding. But he seems really downbeat and lethargic, even when he's woken up.

I called the vet immediately and they said it's a normal reaction. Do I not need to worry about him then? How long does it last and what I can do in the meantime?

Thank you.

Re: after first vaccination

Sounds fairly normal Monty gets very lethargic and off after a vaccination it's tends to last for 24 hours, I just let him sleep and leave him alone but do poke him at food time just so he has something to eat.

Re: after first vaccination

Ah Bless him!
I would see how he is tomorrow.
A lot of cats seem to be like this after the vaccinations.
What I would do is wait until tomorrow, if he is still a bit off in the afternoon then i would take him back to the vets. That's if they are closed on Saturdays.
I wouldn't leave him like it all week end.
Once one of ours wasn't well after vaccinations, she had a temperature but after a visit to the vet she was fine.

Hope Thomas will be back to his normal self very soon. (xxxx for Thomas!)

I put his food bowl right next to him, but he is not interested. I mean, he looked at it, had a yawn, and then just crouched, watching me typing this message... It breaks my heart when I see him not being himself

Re: after first vaccination

My two are useless lumps of fluff after they've had vacc's - For about 24 hours. Knocks them right out, and like yourself, we were slightly concerned the first time it happened because they're normally bouncing off the walls.

Neither of them really moved from the spot they lay down in, let alone the bedroom, until the next morning when it was breakfast time. Even opening their eyes seemed like a struggle!

It's never fun to see them being so different, but I'd just keep an eye on him for the next 24 hours. I'm sure he'll perk right up sooner than later

Re: after first vaccination

Two of my cats have been terrible after vaccinations and I've been really worried. It does seem to knock some of them off their feet a bit, but from what I understand, is quite common. I'm sure as I'm writing this, he's already feeling a lot better
