Fussy Queen

I have a pregnant queen whom im trying to give wet kitten food on top of her dry food - but she is not interested!

She is very fussy and so far wont eat anything that I put in front of her (tuna, pilchards, applaws, natures menu).

Anyone got any ideas??

I have just ordered some Alamo kitten food to see if she will take to that

Re: Fussy Queen

How pregnant is she? Could she still be feeling a bit sicky? I would just let her have as much of whatever it is she fancies and give her some nutri drops or gel on top if you think she needs supplementing? My girl went right off her food for a couple of weeks, but made up for it big time later.

Good point - i didnt think of that!! She hasnt been round my feet asking for extra food like my other cat did when she was pregnant - and that prob wasnt until after 4 weeks anyway - so yeah makes sense
She is only just about 4 weeks preggers!

She also is just sleeping and generally staying away from the other cats - or is nasty to them and chases them to give them a smack on the head for nothing!
So maybe she does feel a bit sicky!

But even before she was preggers, she never ate any food that the other cats used to like.

I dunno i guess we will see - she will let me know once she starts to get hungry i suppose

Re: Fussy Queen

My girl was the same before her pregnancy, never ate much as she was almost always calling and when she did she was really picky ... by the time the kittens came she seemed to be snacking all day long, and after they were born she ate EVERYTHING in sight, she was like a hoover

Re: Fussy Queen

aaawww poor little girlie - hope she gets over whatever is troubling her tummy and her appetite returns soon. Besides the possibilities of still feeling a bit sick, and the option of giving nutri-drops (both good considerations) perhaps you may like to try some simple goatsmilk yoghurt, say two teaspoons on a saucer for her to taste.

If she likes, she may take a bit more but this will just start her eating on something rather than letting her go hungry which I suspect may be what you are worrying about. Sometimes, we only realise that we are hungry after having tasted something - perhaps its similar with catties.

Also, Royal Canin make a powdery feed for recouperating cats and queens, which you have to mix up to make a milky mixture - its nourishing and my girls seem to love the taste of it. Sorry I cannot remember exactly what its called but will go and have a look and come back with an answer. By that time, perhaps someone will be able to supply the name of it.

PS: Just came back to add the name of what I have at home, it is called Royal Canin Waltham Convalescence Support and you may see it
here or get some from vetty.
