Grinding teeth?

We got Benji on Friday, and he is 12 weeks old. I'm been keeping an eye on him while he is eating for the past few days to mke sure it's him eating his food and not Storm sneaking a few large bites. Today when I got home he was a bit clingy and whiny, and when I gave him his wet food he made a grinding noise, which he hasn't done before.

I know this can be a sign of teething but does it usually occur this young? When we were at the vets yeserday he said his teeth and gums look healthy and the bite was ok?

Anybody got any ideas? It hasn't stopped him eating, he has a good appetite on him

Ems xxx

Re: Grinding teeth?

Molly went through a stage of really grinding her teeth, went straight through you .... like nails on a blackboard!! Cant quite remember at what age, a bit older than your baby I think. Was worse when she was eating.

I took her to the vet just to check it was nothing to worry about .... a born worrier! It took about 2 seconds for the vet to check her mouth and say 'she's teething, its all quite normal'

Re: Grinding teeth?

I've found quite a few websites that state 3-6 months so it might be happening early for the poor boy! I'm going to keep an eye on his gums and if they get red he will be shipped straight in.

I hate that noise, it makes my own teeth ache

Re: Grinding teeth?

Yes, Missye as you say do keep an eye on it and mention to the vets if it persists. Probably nothing more than teething though!

Re: Grinding teeth?

He seems to definitely be teething, although his gums aren't red he is now chewing on everything. I gave him a straw and it's practically mangled now, and he keeps trying to chew on metal things (probably because they are cold). He is also avoiding his dry food and prefers his wet food or cold shredded chicken.

Vet checked his mouth on Tues and said it looked good, good bite and nice pink gums! He might just be an early starter?

Re: Grinding teeth?

I just realised that if he is going to get the MC-sized fangs he is going to end up looking like a baby saber-tooth tiger!
