does your cat have a preference??

I have found out that Mitsy might have a preference in her wet food i think she prefers pouches

she doesn't eat much and is quite picky lol she will eat 2 pouches and only 1 tin and I find that there is normally some left round the edges of her bowl in the morning... so today I thought ohh I'll just stir it around and make some noises like i normally do, put it back down and she went straight to it as usual and then turned to look at me as if to say "do you think I'm stupid" and walks off

If I pick it up and put some new food in she's straight there! I also find if I fill the bowl up she'll eat even less she has biscuits down all day and will eat them through out the day. The vet said she is gaining weight well but is small for her age ... maybe the smallest of the litter, I believe some people refer to them as the "runt" but I don't like that name for my baby lol

anyway... bit of a long one but just wondered if anyone has had the same issues, or even if there are any issues? and I'm going to be told off for being a worry pot?! lol

Re: does your cat have a preference??

I think most cats have food preferences, just like people Mine definitely prefer pouches, one likes jelly, the other prefers gravy, neither of them like the pate styles, both of them love raw
So, you can please some of the cats all of the time, some of the cats some of the time but not all of the cats all of the time
Don't worry, it's very normal for your kitty to prefer one type of food over another and as long she as getting enough to eat overall she will continue to grow, even if she remains a small cat.

Re: does your cat have a preference??

Yep, my cat has preferences. Doesn't like fish, and if you dare serve him the same food two feeds in a row, he'll give you a look and wander off without touching it, but if it's a different food he'll deign it worth his while to sample a bit. His preference is in the order of Natural Instinct raw cat food, dry Applaws/Orijen, pouches, tetrapacks, tins. If I mash his wet pate food in with a couple of tablespoons of warm water, he'll eat more of it because he likes licking all the watery "gravy" off. In his perfect cat world, he'll eat raw food and dry all day everyday if he could but I insist of feeding him a rotation of other food and a very small amount of dry, because if he's freefed dry now he won't touch his normal cat food!

As long as you're feeding all that she will eat and she's gaining well like the vet says, it's nothing to worry about.

Re: does your cat have a preference??

My 9 months old little lady is getting fussy about her food as well. I am afraid she makes wrong choices. For example she likes dry Animonda more than dry Applaws, which should be better for her really. Or maybe I am wrong and She is right?
But on the other hand, she likes Applaws chicken with pumpkin (wet) even more than Bozita, she doesn't like much Animonda carny, but she would eat Felix pouches. So I am worried about her a little bit, cos I know from threads about wet and dry food, which ones are better and worse. But what can I do?
