A new born is around the 100gm mark so around 2 weeks old(ish) size is I think 200gms.So I agree something is very wrong.

Major mistake, brain malfunction,100 gm birth weight "200gms around 1 week old

Re: Millie not eating

I was thinking more one week, born at 1 week then putting on roughly 100 a week...

It seriously has to be a mistake... or a very very very young or a very very ill kitten my friend has an underweight pygmy hedgehog which is 268g! And thats like the size of a mobile phone....

Re: Millie not eating

Hello all thanks for you help and thoughts, sorry MY MISTAKE 400g should be around 600g.leaving 200g under average weight, no fleas on either cat,Been advised not to use anything yet as the age can't be verified..spoke to owner today to get more Info..the impression i got is there yours now deal with it....The vet did several tests last night all came back OK, Vet gave an injection of Dexafort to help with the Lethargy,The vet believes she could be six-seven weeks old,and had concerns about the size and shape of her head(he thought there may be pressure on the brain) But looks like the runt of the litter as everything is small but all ok,And said see what happen today and to call him at 1900.then we will have to look to see what can be done if things have not improved.Since retuning home she has eaten the food the vet gave me with kitten milk got 2 months supply and she ate with no help..hopefully she will be ok,she seems a lot brighter today and playing around,The vet hope the heart mermer will fix it's self as she is tiny and will develop within time, but will just have to keep an eye on her...the main thing she is eating that was my first concern...thanks for all your comments.

cheers
martin

Re: Millie not eating

Well 400g is better than 200g. Sounds like a very poorly developed weak 6 week old kitten If she is 6 weeks then she is still more than 200g underweight. Ideally a kitten is 100g at birth, putting on 100g a week since birth. So a 6 week old should be 700g etc. An 8 week old should be closer to 900. My kittens are a large breed but when I got them at 3 months they were around 2kg, and were 4kg at 6 month.

Definitely keep her eating, and weighing her (please please get some scales, you can get them so cheaply from morrisons or tesco) to make sure she is putting on weight every day, and keep in touch with the vet.

Re: Millie not eating

Thanks for the update and clarification on weight, which is still very worryingly low.Do you have digital kitchen scales, she needs to be weighed daily to ensure that she is gaining weight .If she at any time looks like refusing to eat,or is sick/diarrhea please contact the vet immediately as her little body will not be able to cope.Let us know how she gets on.
