Any vets on this forum please? Long post.

Hi,

I am very concerned about what happened to our cat at the vets yesterday and could really do with some unbiased advice.

My OH took her to have her first 'Katavac CHP' booster yesterday. He stated very clearly what he wanted and pointed to the Katavac CHP entry in the vaccination card.

When he came back and we looked at the receipt and vaccination card we were horrified. The stickers in the vaccination card said she had been given Nobivac Tricat Trio and Felv injections!

Nobivac Tricat Trio does not cover all the same viruses as Katavac CHP, her booster Felv is not due untill October and my OH saw the vet give one injection only - but the Felv is a seperate sticker in the card.

We rang the vet straight away, but she had just left and we cannot speak to the owner of the practice until Tuesday. We spoke to a vet nurse who just kept saying that it was their standard practice to do all vaccines together - even though we didn't ask for either of these - and she couldn't tell us if CHP and NTT were the same thing - we looked it up at home later and found they were not.

Looking up the data sheet for Nobivac Tricat Trio, it says not to give at the same time as other vaccines (should be 14 days before or after) - so we are very worried about that too.

My main questions to any vets out there is:

1)How and when can we get our cat back on to what we wanted - a Katavac CHP booster? Or do we now have to start the programme again from scratch? When is it safe to give more vaccinations?

2)Does anyone know what the health implications are if two types of vaccinations are done at the same time when you are supposed to leave a gap of two weeks?

We will of course be making a complaint, but now cannot trust this practise to give honest answers to our concerns so would be really grateful for any professional advise.

Many thaks in advance.

I'm not a vet, but it seems to be standard practice that different vets stock different brands. If you want a particular brand you will probably have to ask for it specifically in advance and you might well have to buy the whole box, that's what I have to do.

According to the Noah Compenidum, both vaccines cover cat flu (both types) and panleucopenia. Only the strains are different.

Thanks for you reply.

When we booked the appointment, we asked for a Katavac CHP booster and it was asked for again during the consultation. No-one mentioned about giving something else instead.

Is it ok that the booster uses a different strain?

Also, we did not ask for a Felv booster as it's not due untill October but it was given anyway without our knowledge. Does anyone know if it's safe to give a booster 7 months after the initial course?

I looked up three vaccines on NOAH and all had different strains, so I would imagine that is fine. But I am not a vet.

I'm sure that's fine, I've done it myself more than once.
