Re: My New Siamese Baby has an upset stomach (for 6 weeks!!)

This IS progress and at an extremely reasonable cost too. Is this the same practice you attended before or a new one? Even more commendable if a new one. A good vet can make such a difference.

The fact he's responding so early to the antibiotics would suggest to me it's most likely a bacterial infection or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth which would a stool sample would have picked up. The vet is just is just basing his 'provisional' diagnosis on the response to treatment rather than a test. Both of the above could cause the current set of symptoms and inflammation so I wouldn't worry too much about an inherent physical problem with the large intestine. Not familiar with Salazopyrin????

I would be interested to hear the blood results! Hopefully Theo will continue to improve, certainly sounds on the right track towards a good outcome already!

Re: My New Siamese Baby has an upset stomach (for 6 weeks!!)

soo pleased the tests were negative. I have read a lot of stories that antibiotics have worked for cats that have the diarrhea that ours have been suffering, but when they are stopped it returns. Fingers crossed these work for Theo full stop, but, if they don't at least you know you're on the right track, and a faecal test will find out for sure what nasties are in his tummy, and you are already loaded with info on where to go from there. Just having a plan of action and positive steps to take makes you feel so much better about it.

Fluffs has just had day 5 of his Ronidazole. I have struggled the last couple of days, hiding it in food, and he kind of knows there's something not right, and it has taken me more or less all day trying to get him to eat the lot. (which he has done eventually) I have now found the answer to giving it to him, those small fish pastes in glass jars, I mix the powder and the 2 probiotics in about half a teaspoon, and he has eaten it before he realises it's not that nice, puuurfect! And he has not done a single poop out of the tray, all we're getting is one at night and one in the day in his tray, it's still runny but not watery, I guess it's still early days, he still has 9 days of medication, I just can't wait for him to do a normal poops.

Keep us informed about Theo, I'm sure there'll be many many other desperate people who come to the forum in the future with this problem, as you and I did, and this information will be invaluable to them. It's what it's all about
